I am thinking about buying an RX-7 and I just wanted to know everybodys opinion on them such as cost wise and upgrade paths and reliability..I am looking at three of them and they are all single turbo, manual of course and they are all 3rd gen RX-7's but I know little about the rotorary engine and how easy it is to tune it and upgrade parts for it etc...on the other hand I have a Eagle Talon TSI AWD that is in excellent condition but It needs alot work as in new tranny and engine along with all new brake calipers and rotors..I will have about 7k to spend on the talon if I choose to go with that but on the other hand I can get a good down payment on a RX-7..any thoughts? thankz ~Dustin

1G (NOTHING ELSE TO SAY)

I have been working on my cousing rx-7 TURBO II (87)
AND it is a PITA to work with the motor. We are putting new seals and hopefully in 2 weeks we are done. WE have been doing for about 3 weeks.
there is always a problem. (sound like a DSM thought)
but technically DSM is easier than an RX-7 in special a 3 rd Generation.

the only reason I would EVER buy an rx7 is to swap a v8 into it. The rotardy has to be the shittiest engien to have even been put in a car. No torque, and a whole bunch of seals that WILL go bad. I say buy a rolling chasis with rearend(2nd gen) and swap an ls1 into it. Fast in a striahg line and in the turns.

I would go with the rx7. I've had a second gen RX7 and that was slow, but fun. The wankle engine is a whole different game. Read up on the rotary engine alot first, then decide.

Ask me and I'll tell you the rx7. But then again I am biased. BTW they are no more difficult to work on than any other car. If you don't know what you are doing though, don't blame it on the engine.

I love fds but like said above, if you dont know wat you r doing, you will run into problems.

Which can be said about any car but why have a hobby that requires working on a car if your afraid to learn something new. WTF

It's letters in the vin that describe the production model. Fd=3rd gen Fc=2nd gen Fb=1st gen Fe=RX-8.

fb=1st gen
fc=2nd gen
fd=3rd gen

all fds were twin turbo no n/a

Get the Rx7 and a chevy LS1v8 and 6spd trans or my 2g for sale for under 7 with a fresh motor, turbo, ic, suspension etc.... Alot done to it see the ad on here..

Yup like the supra or skyline guys. When you get bigger turbos, its easier to spool 1big1 than 2 big ones although some stay twin, single is much more desirable. So when you see a single turbo rx7 or supra, its aftermarket and it probably hauls ass :) Im talkin 3rd gen rx7 and 4th gen supra only here.
