Hey guys, I bought a 1991 GRS-4 imported from Japan 2 weeks ago. The car runs great but I have difficulty shiting in 2nd gear. If I shift slowly, it goes in but when I try to shift faster it doesn't gring but it doesn't shift smootlhy ? Almost grind, I'll give a try during my diner time. Also when I'm cruising in 4th gear, when I push or let the gaz I can see the shifter move about 1/2'' forward and backward, does the same in 3th but it doesn't in 5th.

I'm a machiniste so I've made the shifter bushing and today after work I'll install shifter and base bushing but I think I would need to retorque the 2 36mm nuts in the tranny. I wanted to know your opinion since I have never played with a tranny before and I'm afraid to open it after seeing some thread of DSMer saying that the gear in brass fell off after they removed the cover to torque the 2 36mm nuts.

I have already changed all the fluid with RedLine one, so in the tranny I have Redline MT90.

My car has never pop out of any gears yet ...

Vfaq: Shifter wiggle/movement while in gear?

Thanks for your help.

Pat, I got your email also! It could be a few things; worn motor mounts that are allowing excessive motor/trans movement, loose or damaged shift cables, worn intermediate shaft bearings inside the transmission, worn out gears with worn out engagement teeth on them.

Thanks Tim for your help ! I really appreciate it. :D

I did a few pull in first gear shifting to redline and the second gear shift like butter, does the same when I pass in third. At least that's some great news so I'm happy. Did not have the time to install the metal bushing I've made but I'll try this week-end ... I'll also check my cable adjustment since I can move the shifter front/back in some gears when the car is not running. There's no left/right play in the shifter except in second gear. I also plan to make some aluminium roll stop even if the stock mount don't seems that bad.

I'll keep you update on what did some difference. ;)

Thanks again for the tips on what to check !
