Seat anchor bolt pulled out. What now?

well i have been making a kirky drag seat bracket and have been bolting in and out the bracket as well as the OEM seat. well i was just trying to make a final mock up and bolted it down, but the bolt anchor (where the bolt threads into) on the driver side seat tword the outside CAME OUT COMPLETELY! now there is nothing to thread in that bolt. CRAP! has this happened to anyone else??? and how the hell do i fix this!! its obviously not safe with 3 bolts anchoring in the seat... im pissed off now.:mad:

would the best action to be taken, take a hole saw and drill out that nasty shit and then place 1/4 steel over the hole and weld it in, not use the oem bolt thread and just re tap the 1/4? im just in disbelief this just happened... ####...

Anyone know the bolt specs?? It's a 14mm head?

I could also maybe use 1/8 flat stock and weld an appropriate sized nut on the back side slip it in the hole and weld in?

With this much stress on the bolt/nut best thing to do would be to weld in a piece of flat stock. Make a hole in the new thick strip and tack this nut that came out to back side of it before welding whole thing into the car.
 
Damn dawgy, that kinda sucks huh? Well, since your right there makin a custom bracket as well it should be no thing for you to custom fab a solution to this problem. I actually had this happen to a passenger side seat on a 95 Talon I used to have. I never got around to fixing it so I cant speak from experience LOL :)

In your situation Id be very tempted to to hammer that thread-insert back into its home, thread a bolt temperarly into it, carefully weld around it (carefull, those tar-mat stuff catch fire very easy) then unscrew the temp bolt out (bolt was screwed in so no welding debris could damage a thread)

Another option would to be to convert all 4 mounting points. Since you say your doin a aftermarket seat set up couldnt you convert it so that instead of bolts to hold the seat down its 4 nuts? Think about it, what if you precision place grade 8 strong as f#ck bolts under the car. I mean in such a way that all 4 bolts punch through the bottom of the floor and what you basically have in the car now is 4 threaded studs sticking up. You would then place seat down over studs that are sticking up, flat-washer, lock-washer, nut, done.

Of course the bolts underneith the car would need a fenderwasher so to speak unde each one, then weld the bolts in from the bottom. Grade8 hardware, fenderwashers (so its welded in multi layer metal thick) and some precise placement and I could totally pictue that working out just fine.

Sucks when are cars start to get old huh? Mine is on its 18th birthday for crying out loud! Check out the underside of my chassis in this pic. Heres what 650 HP will do to a 18year old car. Dyno straps pulled so hard that it ripped my underside and wedged the straps into theyre floor chains. NO bull$hit !

Yep that happened to me also. I'll be welding flat stock and welding a flared nut to the back of the flat stock. And use a hole saw to cut out the carnage so it's clean. I bought some grade 8.8 bolts the oem thread size is m10x1.25 so i jist replaced the bolt as well. :) I'm gonna get around to fixing this today.

The racing seat will be only there for track days. Other days the oem seat will be in it's place.

The oem nut was tack welded in 4 spots and there wasnt even full penetration, wonder if this will happen to the other bolt holes eventually..

Ahh yes you should see te rips from strappin my car down also.. It's sad

Fixed it with an 8th plate and a m10x1.25 flate nut. Worrked out surprisingly well, pix in the welding thread
