Scuff the flywheel with sandpaper?

I'm in the middle of a clutch/flywheel swap and my friend who ownes a VR-4 told me that he scuffed his flywheel with sandpaper before installing it as an added insurance measure to prevent it from glazing over. Just wanted a second opinion regarding this, has anyone done it? Does it make sense? Thanks.

Yes, that's routine. However, what's more routine is to yank the flywheel to have it re-surfaced, and Magnafluxed for cracks and heat-checking.
Make sure you machinist can look up specs in a book.

If it's been resurfaced, and you're keeping that secret from us for your own devious reasons, then the blanchard-ground finish it should have from the machine shop will be fine, and there's no reason to further "scuff" the friction surface.

I'm actually installing a new flywheel, an X-ACT, that I bought in conjunction with the Centerforce DF from Road Race. I remember that somewhere on their site they said that their flywheels are correctly stepped for their clutches, but I'm going to call this week to make sure.

Since it's a new flywheel, I'm guessing I won't have to bring it to get resurfaced. Would the sandpaper scuff idea still be viable?

Thanks,

Scott

Your good to go and to install. They come stepped correctly.

Yeah..

Check the step anyways. It could possibly save you a ton of work that you shouldn't have to do in the first place.

ALWAYS CHECK TOLERANCES.

ALWAYS.

Very good point, and duly noted. Thanks for the information.
