So I am looking at tearing the car down to the frame and doing a ground up on it. My dilemma comes in do I want to restore it to factory condition ( being a fairly rare car) or should I go ahead with my plans of doing a 55hp Viper swap into it?

It is the 87 Starion and Im on the fence.... Should I bring it back to the factory GT car it was meant to be or do I go all out and put some strait power down? Advice?

thanx

I hope your drivetrain can handle it.

EVERYTHING would be re done on the car if I go this route. The only thing "stock" would be the body. Although we have guys in our StarQuest club puttin down 500 horses out of their stock drivetrain.

500hp My bad and these cars actually already have a ton of torque. But it would definantly not be running stock equipment with a Viper motor in it

I'd go with a SBC over a big v10 or do an LSx swap.

Yugos are rare, too. "Rare" isn't necessarily a good thing.

You're facing a sweating hell in trying to restore a Starion. Finding parts will be impossible for at least 80% of what you'll need.

Finding parts for the Starion isnt a huge deal. Ive had SQs for over 15 years and have LOTS of connections through my car club and Starquestclub. A full on resto isnt too bad to do.

I have decided to go ahead and work on restoring my daily driver Starion and go ahead and shove the Viper into my my other Conquest shell.

One sweet stock ride and one heck raiser

LSX motor for sure. Easiest to swap in, fairly compact, plenty of other swaps using it right now. Only problem is I hate the way they sound unless built with a nice cam, decent heads, and an exhaust that is muffled. Too many people throw 3" tubes on a stock ls motor and they sound like friggin trucks like that.

I'd vote 4 valve cobra motor, but those things are wide and tall. Not sure how well one would fit under there.

So want to Be REALLY different. Well I would drop the LS1/2/3 idea. This is so common in almost every car now-a-days LS1 Evo, LS1 Miatas, LS2 Solstices, LS1 RX7's, Hell it's so common. Freaking Pontiac put one in it's flagship vehicle (G8 GXP sports the LS3). It you want to be really off the wall different. Then I have some expensive ideas. But I GUARANTEE no one has yet to swap in to the Conquest/Starion.

Let me know if you want to hear them.
