Edmonton,
K guys, well i have a 2.5 inch exhaust and i Have like a 2 foot resonator. It has 2.5 inch inlet/outlet. But you guys know what the inside of a resonator is like. it looks as it would affect my airflow and not truly be a real 2.5 inch exhaust. is it worth it to take it out and just put something else, like a high flow cat? or just a staright pipe. will this be better? Also will this be alot louder if i eliminate the resonator? Cause i dont want it louder. any input would be appreciated thanks.

Resonators make the car louder, yes, and it's a test/straight pipe itself and will flow better than stock cat.

Resonators are there to QUIET the exhaust not make it louder. I took my cat and resonators off and have a hks caron ti, it is perfect, not to loud but real deep not like a honda.

I'll second 2mean about the resonator acting to dampen the sound. I believe the resonator flows better than a high-flow cat does. Bolting a straight pipe up would improve your flow but sound levels would increase, it is a darn nice sound you get though:)

It sounds to me like you have a magnaflow resonator which has these crazy lips on the inside of the resonator where the metal was bent around during construction. It literallly takes the inside of the pip from 2.5" down to say 2.25 or worse. This is whats hurting you , not the perfurated tube inside.

If you pull the res out it will definately make the car louder and have a more buzzy sound depending on your muffler. I would pull that res out and put a better higher flowing unit in it's place. Vibrant Performance makes a really good 2.5" 18" long resonator that does not have anything in the way of the exhaust flow like the unit that you have.

I have a full 3" exhaust with no cat, no resonator, and a straight-thru muffler and it isn't too loud. I didn't want to have that annoying Honda-rice bumble-bee sound, and if you have a turbo it absorbs most of the sound anyway. So anyway, it sounds good, not too loud, nice deep rumble, and I have no resonator or cat.

hey DSMjim, yeah you know exactly what im talking about. i feel like its killing my performance, i dont know if its a magnaflow, but i was just so sketchy when i had it put in. See the thing is, i dont want my car to be too loud, but i want the best flow possible.

Odd.. I have a resonator on my Buschur and my exhaust is still chest pounding. Same with my friend's sr20 on a Blitz exhaust. We can hear each other from 1/8 mile away on part throttle.

Add another one? Maybe the big resonator (oval body with the same core)

Get a bigger muffler with twin smaller tips.

Just going from the dual 3.5" to dual 3" fiberglass packed tips made a big diff on my car. Big ass tips act like megaphones.

I might get the oval body resonator on that link...

you guys think that if i put one of those units that are in the link that i will notice a difference? also my exhaust is press bent... i know i know dont get mad. but im gonna go to the exghaust shop soon with the mandrel bends i have and get them to replace the bends with the mandrel ones hopefully. but will the new res make a difference you think?
