My mechanic does not like the Clutchmasters 2500 clutch on my '90 Laser (professionally upgraded - see profile) and wants to replace it with the clutch from the four wheel drive version. Will this work? And if it does, will the clutch from the fwd hold the extra power (I am getting about 270 HP on the dyno). I don't drag race it, and the Clutchmasters is hell in traffic (very heavy on my bad leg), so the idea is not without it's appeal, but I don't know anything about the stock clutch from the four wheel drive Laser.

Well a stock clutch will not help with your power output....even if it is an AWD.

Maybe get an ACT 2100 aka HD pressure plate and an ACT street disc. Thats what I run on my 97 GST and that dynoed at 284Hp 280 Tq (76 deg amb temp, no fan on the IC). That holds pretty well. It slips here and there, but its much easier on the transmission.

Pedal pressure feels like stock.

I run the 2600 aka Xtreme plate on my 92 TSi AWD, I love the heavy feel of that, but if you leg is injured or "bad", get the 2100.

Thanks for the reply. It confirms my suspicions. Yes, I ruptured the Achilles tendon in my left leg, and the calf muscle has atrophied somewhat - makes pushing that clutch pretty difficult in stop and go traffic.

Is Clutchmasters supposed to be a good clutch? My mechanic here seems to have a low opinion of it (doesn't like the way it feels, I guess). I find it very heavy, and it doesn't disengage unless you push it all the way to the floor. It would be a lot easier if it disengaged 2/3 of the way down. I think this is really a drag racing clutch, but, like I said, I don't drag it and never will (but it is dynamite on the highway).

I have heard good things about CM, but no first hand experience. Only experienced with ACT.

The ACT2100 HD is very close to stock pedal pressure. It should do fine.
