Hey guys. Im trying to get a removable steering wheel for my 1990 Talon, due to the difficulty exiting the car that the roll cage created. I was wondering if anyone has done this before? I want a weld on steering adapter with the removable collar going on to that... For example....

Now... My question was...

How much closer to the driver will this steering wheel be? (i want it more or less in the stock position and i think that one above will do it.)

And... Is our steering shaft 3/4 inch in diameter? Most kits out there are made for a 3/4 shaft so i guess its the most popular.

Thanks Everyone!

I know where to find them, i just want to know how much closer to the driver they are. Thats why i wanted the weld on piece cause it saves space. I have limited room...

I have seen one from ebay on a 2G, and the difference is minimal at most. Might differ between brand though, the one I saw was a no name.

the "quick release hubs" that you find on ebay, that usually come with a steering wheel for about $50 will put the steering wheel in the same place as before. The weld on adapters might save some space, another place you might want to look into would be equipment for circle track cars. heres another link though with more options http://www.spatechnique.com/steering/quickrelease.htm good luck with your search.

Thats guys for the info, im going to try it since it seems most people have not, and i will post a "How-To" or at least the results of the installation.

I use one from Tekniq Auto which is also lockable though they also have an unlocked race version. That along with a Momo bolt pattern adapter plate puts the steering wheel about an inch or two closer to the driver, most noticeable when I need to reach the washer or turn signal stalks.

Most aftermaker hubs may put the wheel closer to the driver since they are designed to collapse in an accident. The stock wheel is designed to do this but most aftermaket wheels do not so it's designed into the aftermarket hubs.

I am planning on purchasing a quick release steering wheel hub, but dont want the added "height" thickness or whatever you may want to call it. What can I do? AS of now I have Momo steering wheel and hub but its not removable, which is what I want to get for security purposes. Now what?
P.S. It would be great if I can add a NRG quick release lock style hub, something that can make that possible would be great, thanks!

I just bought a steering wheel and quick release on ebay. the steering wheel cost me $50.00 total and the quick release was $25.00. I havent gotten the wheel yet but the quick release came which is about 2.5 inches tall. Dont know if this helps anyone but thought I would throw it in. Travis
