Question about my work??? May be getting fired

Hey guys, i'm a driver for Fox's Pizza and I have a little problem going on it started last Thursday well I come in at four and from the time I came in the door I was in and out.
I only had eight deliveries that night but they where really spread out and only 3 of the 8 where within 5miles.

As I live in WV the roads are very curvey, and it was raining very badly that night therefore it would have been dangerous for me to deliver fast. Anyways I had to go 10miles out for my first delivery, then the next three were atleast 5 miles each for my last delivery it was alteast 10miles out the curviest road in the county.

I am not going to risk my life or somebody else's to deliver a pizza on time. If I would have made them on time I would have to been speeding the whole time on wet roads.

So anyways the next day I go and pick up my check and the manager said im off the schedule until I talk to the owner but the owner does not setup a time with me I had to track down the owner that took me three days so I talked to the owner and he said he would talk to the manager that night and he would call me but yet there has been no call yet I have called Fox's to see what is going on but the keep icing me or giving me the runaround on it.

Can I be fired for my deliveries being late?? Its not like I wasnt doing my job it was just something that was out of my control.

Any help with this would be much appreciated!!

I guess you can be fired for something as ignorant as that, especially if your new and your on some 90 day probation... then can just say 'your not what we were looking for' or some far cry bs like that. But then again if you are new, being good employers they would set down with you and tell you what needs to be changed. It all depends on management.

Yea the employers are real dickheads and I have only been working there for about a month but everything has been going well that was my first bad night but I dont see how thats all my fault.

I think we can all agree that our managers (if you have one) can always be dicks now and again. On the other hand though, they generally tend to be understanding somewhat. If your managers can't understand you putting your personal safety in front of delivering some greasy pizza, then I would quit personally. Like you said Life > Pizza. Hey and if they do fire you go work for the competition.

hey i used to work for dominos pizza as a delivery guy and there are some times you just cant get there in time and your manager should understand. when we would get real busy half our orders wouldnt get there in time. your boss should understand if not tell em to find some one else. its not worth it.

You were faced with a moral dilemma and a sticky one at that. But the most valuable asset to any company is the employees. Employees are there to produce results, that is the only reason why you are there. Regardless of the circumstances, results were not produced in your situation. And I would think that your employer could have enough reason to fire you. Whether they do or not is up to them to decide.

Yeah I suppose even if I did retain a high rate of speed throughout the deliviries there was no way they would have been on time. They only have one other driver other than me and thats the manager and he only does it when there is nobody else and he has been doing it for a week straight.

And the worse thing is I finally get some money and think "Hey i'll have somebody do the work on my car instead of me for once!!!" well I did and now since I might lose my job my DSM is sitting at the garage with a $250 repair bill I can't pay as of right now.

I said it before and I'll say it again I should have done it my damn self!! Then I could be driving my car right now but once again I've just F*$%#D my self royaly .

Damn, that's pretty shitty. I deliver food for this Italian restaurant in my car () and I make great money considering what I'm doing and how little I work. In my 3 hour shift, I'll pull anywhere from $60-$100 from tips and hourly wages..not bad. Plus I get to drive the DSM. If I'm late to a delivery they're understanding about it. I've even been slightly late to a delivery because I forgot one of the items and they weren't all that upset. Shit happens, no one is perfect.

Yea I suppose thats true the only reason im so worried about losing my job is because I live in a rinky dink redneck town where there is barely any jobs if there were more I would have already told them to shove it!

Consider it a lost cause and move on. Time is money and the more you waste, the less money you will have. It's just a pizza place, I am sure you can find something else.

I was "let go" from one of my first jobs, a sub shop. My next job, Burger King, turned out to be a stepping stone from where I am today.

Well I talked to the manager and he said I can come back when ever I want and that I was on a 1 week suspension but I guess they don't know how to tell me that I was on one.

The cooks that took the orders were telling him a bunch of BS but I guess i'll have that when there both women.... backstabing women at that.
