I pulled the motor out of my car today, but i left the transmission on the frame. I had to remove pretty much the whole timing side of the motor to get it out. Im going to get a hoist tomorrow so i can drop my new motor in the car. I was just wondering if i should just take out the transmission to drop the new motor in, or if there is a easy way to drop the motor in with the tranny still on the frame of the car. Please let me know. thanks.

I would pull the tranny out before you install the new motor. Its much less of a hassle to get the tranny to align with the motor. It can be done with the trans still in the car but I would not attempt it by yourself. The tranny weighs alot and its awkward to hold since theres no really good want to grip it.

I agree. Its really not that hard to drop the motor in with the transmission attached, but it is a pain in the ass to try and line your transmission splines and dowel pins to your motor when you are restricted to the space in your engine bay. It would have been easier to pull the entire motor/trans out all together and seperate them when they were out of the car.

next time im def. pulling them together. I finaly got the motor dropped in, but it was a pain to try to line everything up. Im glad i finaly got it in though, now i just have to put the rest of the motor together and do a break in period. New motor and turbo.

You should put an inline filter on the oil supply line for the turbo. All of the metal shavings from engine break in will make their way into the turbo and trash the bearings.

How do i put a filter in the oil feed line? i have the kit that converts from the oil pump to the head. I bought a 16g turbo so the feed line comes from the head...what should i do now?
