I was just wondering if I will run into any problems if I put my evo III exhaust manifold on with the t-28 without basic mods? Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but if you can help thanks in advance.

yeah, itll go right on.

I know it will go right on. Sorry if I didnt make myself clear. I want to know if not having the basic intake/exhaust/IC piping will cause any problems?

The reason I want to do it now is because I have discovered a crack in the exhaust manifold and I think the seals on the t-25 are leaking because at full boost the car is burning a little oil. So would it be wise to wait or do it this weekend?

I would change the Exhaust manifold and do it soon. If your turbo is on its way out upgrade it now and just keep it at stock levels untill you can modify your car in other areas.

I would think about getting a 16g or a 14b. They are proven turbos that can go into the 12s for sure.

I already have a "big" t-28 from forced performance. So I should be ok to swap the turbo and exhaust manifold out? I dont have my profec-b in the car yet so the boost is going no where past 11 psi.

There will be no physical problems running that on your car totally stock. To get the most out of it you will need all supporting mods as previously stated. You will however be able to install it and drive around with stock boost etc and be ok. Just don't turn it up or you will run into problems.

Thanks alot guys. Supporting mods are on the way. Ill post more questions about the install when I get back from class. Thanks agian.

Stay strong my friend. As the temptation of turning up the boost will show it's ugly face everytime you drive the car.

Ive been reading the VFAQ on installing the turbo but I have a couple questions. So I just drain my oil and coolant with the car cool and start unbolting my turbo and exhaust manifold? From the vfaq it seems pretty straight forward. One thing I was curious about is, is there a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the block? I dont have one but I wasnt sure if there was one there. So lets just say I have the new turbo and exhaust manifold on. I just reconnect the o2 sensor and downpipe, refill the oil and coolant, then start it up? I would think there would be a way of priming the turbo? I want to have everything figured out when I go to install this turbo so I dont run into any snags. If I think of anymore questions Ill post them up. Thanks in advance.

Drain oil and coolant, yes. Trust me on this - you'll want to remove the radiator to give yourself some space. It's very easy after you drain the coolant:

- Remove your upper radiator hose
- Remove BOV return tube
- Disconnect your LICP and move it out of your way
- If you look around/under the turbo, there is a metal water pipe that runs from under your drive belts on the right side of the engine (connects to the water pump) and runs under the turbo to the left side of the engine. Your lower radiator hose is attached to this. Unscrew the hose clamp and pull the hose off and toward the radiator. Then, unbolt the upper radiator mounts (metal brackets holding the radiator down), unplug your fans, and move the harnesses out of your way, and pull the radiator straight up and out, holding onto the fan shrouds.

You'll defintely want to remove the upper and lower radiator hoses to reach the water supply line anyway, so you might as well just pull the radiator to get the added room.

When removing the turbo:

Remove the water supply line from BOTH the front of the turbo and the metal water pipe (behind the turbo) BEFORE UNBOLTING THE TURBO if you can. Otherwise, you'll bend the shit out of it trying to get the turbo out with it on.

Understand that this is all coming from someone with experience only with 1G's - your 2G may be harder or easier as far as clearance is concerned, so check it out yourself. I believe, other than the compressor outlet position, that most of the design remained about the same, though.

EDIT: The VFAQ shows you only removing one of the radiator fans -maybe this will work for you. I know it wouldn't have worked for me. :/

Now Im really excited to get the turbo on. Im going to get the basic upgrades first then save up for a better intercooler and a fuel system.

psychlow: thanks for that post, that makes alot of sense. So other than that its just bolting it on then refilling fluids? Do I need to do anything special before I run the car after the install?

You shouldn't worry about priming the turbo, but if you want to you can dribble a few drops of fresh, clean motor oil into the turbo's oil feed hole. Then spin the blades, feel the smoothness, no more worries.
