Ok do I replaced all my gaskets hen I upgraded turns and not even 20k miles and I already blew apart a turbo to manifold gasket. It was an oem metal gasket. Is this normal or what happened? If it helps my egt's are around 1,400ish while cruising at 80mph and around 1,000. Around town. Thanks.

same thing happened to me but i had like 10k miles i think it had to do with the old stock manifold bolts

No I used lock washers that's about it. Guess I should use did washers then.

Also check the manifold gasket surface and see if it is flat. A warped manifold will burn out gasket fairly quickly.

I went to ARP chromoly bolts and a copper gasket between turbo and manifold and have had no trouble since. You have to check the turbo bolts every now and then to make sure they are torqued to spec.

Yeah im staying away rom sep turbo bolts. I had 3 out of 4 brand new bolts strip out on me. Had to break them and retap my band new turbo. And they went in straight and fine so it wasent user error. Also I will check both surfaces when I insrtall the new gasket. Also anyone know the torque specs for the turbo bolts?

45 ft/lbs. and don't bump your own threads.

Bump Threads?? What does that mean? I will be replacing my bolts and washers, 45ft lbs seems kind of loose . Can yopu show me a link of where I can find this info.

Where and how much is the manifold-turbo gasket? I might get one of those, I have never heard any bad from them. :thumb:

Thanks.

LOLThat just means that you make a reply to your own thread, because nobody else has answered it, causing it to be bumped back up to the live/new posts. They are hoping to get an answer, but it is called bumping and is frowned upon.

I thought it had something to do with the threads on the bolts, thats why i asked.

I feel like a real dip' now. Haha thanks. :applause:

Make sure you have the bracket holding your front pipe to the engine block. You should loosen it before you torque those bolts, then tighten it again when you're done.

If that bracket isn't there, you'll continue to have problems with those bolts.

Front pipe bracket? Uh, what?

As for the torque spec...I thought it was 45lbs and then a 90* turn?

I get my copper gaskets from Darren at FFWD Connection.
He has the arp bolts also.

Greg

Stock, DSMs came with a flange on the downpipe that bolted to the long block. Torquing turbo bolts is not rocket science guys. Get an OEM (or whatever snazzy gasket you want), put it on, and torque the bolts down. If you need to get super anal about it, just torque all 4 in a X pattern to 20 ft/lb and then to 45-50 ft/lb with some antiseize and use lock washers.
