I'm thinking of taking the belt off of the power steering pump and running the car with out it to try to isolate a noise I'm hearing. I think the bearing might be going bad in the pump. Does anyone know if this will hurt anything else in the engine running it like this?

Thanks for the help.

Just make sure you still have a belt going around the water pump pulley. That's the one right above the crank pulley. Then be prepared for hard steering.

What kind of sound are you hearing? I'm hearing some kind of real quick spinning metal sound for a split second when I First start my car up.

I've heard that could be the Harmonic Balancer or possibly the starter going out, but i'm not sure either. I too have a similar noise.
