Just got done with my new computer and wanted to see how it matches to some of the other dsm'ers out there.

ASUS Striker Extreme Mobo
Intel Core 2 Q6600 2.4ghz Quad Core @ 3.2ghz
Kingston HyperX 2GB DDR2-1066
EVGA 8800GTS 640mb superclocked
Cooler Master Tru Power 750w PSU
Vista Ultimate 32bit

I love this machine, it was actually a cheap build and runs like a champ. I scored over 14000 on 3dmark06. Proc runs pretty hot, I need a better fan but thats about it.

I got the video card for only $100 from a buddy. He has 3gb of ram and had two of these 8800gts's. The pc was slow because vista only runs 4gb max. With the 3gb physical and over 1gb of vram he was having issues. Just in case people have the same issue as this I posted it.

I build all the machines at work, so I get parts fairly cheap (bulk) so I can typically stay fairly close to the "bleeding" edge of technology.

My girlfriend is a mac user. She always try to convince me to switch to mac. But I refuse. Think of it this way. PCs are like DSMs, They always break but its fun to spend money to replace the part imho. The only thing I like about Macs, is that they are really convenient. When it breaks you just throw the whole thing away and get a new one LOL jk. The reason why I prefer PC is because there are a wide selection of games, I can keep up with modern software's with a simple upgrade and its fun to tinker with PCs (Overclocking<-similar to turning up the boost, Fixing and cable management just like dsms).

1.8GHz Core 2 Duo
80GB HDD
2GB Ram
Wireless N card
1980x1080 screen
0.75" thick
~2.5lbs :D

#2 Home media server

Pentium D 920 @ 3.0GHz

Storage Drive #1 - 500GB WD
Storage Drive #2 - 500GB WD
Fusion 5 HD QAM Tuner card
Hauppage SD Tuner card

#3

Some old freakin' Pentium HT laptop that weighs about 60lbs and takes 2 minutes to boot. :toobad: But now that I have the MBA, I really only use this PC for DSMLink tuning. Although I did read that there is a Mac version of DSMLink over on the boards and v3 is supposed to support the Mac OS out of the box.

Most of mine have been budget builds, I see no need to go to the "bleeding edge" when all my family or I use it for is internet access, word, excel, music storage and digital photos.

I re-used a few parts from older machines, but I spent less than $300 four years ago when I built mine.

The Basics:

ASRock P4V88/P4V88+ Motherboard
Celeron D 2.14 GHz
1GB DDR400 RAM
two 80GB HDDs
52X CD/DVD burner

I'm admittedly a hack, note the lovely hole I was forced to cut in the side of the case for an extra fan...

Thats not even cutting edge 5 years ago. LOL, I spent less than $600 on mine. I use mine for gaming so you have to stay cutting edge. If you dont than you cant play the new games, sucks!

Yeah, it sure was cutting edge... of a spoon.
I prefer cheap and reliable, which translates directly into old and stale for technology. Maybe someday I'll get back into it a bit more aggressively if I find a good reason, the only reason I've built as many as I have is cost.

Never been much for gaming. I get bored with them too easy, the last game I bought was Halo 2.:D

OS: Vista Ultimate 64 bit (I actually like it)
CPU: Q6600
RAM: 8GB RAM
Video: Nvidia 8600GT
Primaryy Storage: Hardware 600GB RIAD 0 for O/S
Secondary Storage: Software 300GB RAID 0 for data files
External Storage: 1TB Segate Pro

I work in IT so I mainly just need CPU, RAM, and storage. Not much of a game player anymore, but there are some cool looking ones coming out soon :)

XP
P4 at 1.99 GHz
512 of Ram
RADEON 9250
and 2 harddrives that combine to be about 90Gigs

I think have the crappiest.....so far

I'm currently working on one of 5 HP DL585s with 32Gigs of RAM, FC card to my SAN, and hanging the rest of the storage off of a 15TB NAS presenting 1TB of space to my VMWare setup.
