Phil,

It has been 7+ years, you would think someone would get over it, but I guess not…

I have ALWAYS been 100% genuine with my advise and I went out of my way to help EVERYONE, who asked me for help!

Did I think that my FMIC wasn’t really helping a 14b much at a drag strip? Yes I did! And I still think so! You might disagree with my opinion, but I find a mere suggestion that I had some ulterior motives is simply insulting

1. There is nothing to get over, it's the way I interpreted your words, wether wrong or right, good or bad, it's just fact. I have no ill feelings about you at all, just telling a story from my standpoint. Not meant to insult you, but, if you are taking it that way, then you must understand I apparently felt in a similar manner years back. Case closed on my end.

2. Never said anything negative about advice you gave to others.

3. Yes, I disagree with your opinion: "I dynoed 20 HP higher at the wheels at 16psi, than I was able to dyno at 21 psi with a sidemount. Trap speeds jumped from 113.1 right into the 115's."

And, if you've read other threads up here, one of the #1 recommendations to me by other interested parties has been to upgrade to a larger FMIC than I run now. Several runs of mine this year have proven heatsoak with the EVO FMIC.

Heres my story,

In 1999 I was 5 months into my AirForce enlistment and stationed in Biloxi Mississippi. At 19 with a wife and daughter, I was in desperate need of a reliable car. I had no credit to get a loan from my credit Union so I had to settle for the Lemon lots of Biloxi because they could finance me with no problem. After searching around for a few weeks I narrowed my choices down to two cars, A 92 MX3 and a 90 Eclipse 1.8, Needless to say I ended up taking the eclipse for an outrageous price of $3500! By the time I was done paying it off I think I paid $5000 total with financing. Oh to be young right? Anyhow I had that car for three years until I bought my wife another car, whic was an accord because my family was growing. At this time I bought my first PC and finally got some sweet dialup connection. Thats when I discovered DSMTALK.com. I had no Idea that there were better Eclipses, and that there were lasers and Talons. I knew I had to sell my car for something better. By that time Fast and the Furious was in theaters. I had my eclipse all riced out with scoops, mesh Grill, Neon Lights Etc, Etc. Naturally it was easy to sell just by its appearance. I took that money and found a Red 1990 Laser RS FWD in Phoenix AZ, (I was living in Tucson at the time) On Autotrader (No Craigslist back then). The test drive was the first time I had ever driven a turbo car, Man I was scared! I had never felt a rush like that, So $1800 got me the Laser with a busted Fuel filler hose, The dude failed to mention that part, so I had to go to NAPA, Buy a hose, Buy the tools and replace that in the parking lot, All while listening to my ex-wife bi*** about the piece of crap I just bought. On the drive home I hit 130MPH, I was so happy with my purchase. I loved that car, I did so many little things to try and make it look better. Here is the end result before I sold it.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/421610 Theres pics of some of my other past cars too

I had to sell it for money to buy my first house. I regret it to this day. But change is good, I have since owned many DSMs from 1.8 to AWD GSX, TSI, Autos, Even did a Mighty Max Turbo Swap. anything with a 4G63 in it. My latest was purchased 2 weeks ago. A 90 Talon TSI AWD, Its sitting on stands right now waiting for a new clutch fork and Ball, My daily driver is a 90 Galant GS with Electronic suspension. Going to do a turbo upgrade to that one when I get some time. I guess the moral to the story is, Once you have a DSM and get your hands dirty with it your Hooked! :thumb:

Oh yea, I saw my first eclipse not too long ago drinving one day, It had been crashed and generally not taken care of! :toobad:

Awesome story! The Laser looked awesome! I had two FWD Laser RST's and I did sell them, and I do miss them. A friend local to me owns my first one so I see it from time to time. Great cars.

That Mighty Max is awesome. Almost bought one about 4 years back with the intentions of a 4G swap. Fell through.

Thanks for sharing!

......it was nice seeing you guys going for that 14B record back in the day. Still DSM legends. ;

Thanks......much appreciated words!

I have sumitted new beat times 3 times to dsmtimes.org (11.4 then 11.1 then 10.8). The site was last updated oct 10. I think my 11.4 was In September. Hahaha. Not upto date at all.

Not to mention there was now way to filter two runs for same car. My 11.44 nos run is on the 14b list, but not my 11.9 run from same 2004 season without nos.

...and on this subject......still no update on the times list. It's been 3 solid months with no update. I sent my info in on October 24th. I think it's a bit rediculous that there hasn't been an update in so long, I know I must not be alone on this. I wanted to correct the problem with Artic TSi's listing and add Travis to the list. I emailed the guy months ago with no return. What gives? I have a friend working on a site for me that will be 14b based. I will have a timeslip database on the site that I will update in a much more timely manner and we won't have to worry about it any longer. I would consider a 16g list as well, even if I never run one. Small frame turbos as SBstar calls them. Anyone that knows me will tell you my enthusiasm alone for this stuff will have the list as accurate and as current as possible. I'll let you all know when the site is up and running, hopefully at the start of this years race season.

Well here is my story to throw out.
Im 26 now and my street scene days started for me back in high school in a little blink and its not there town. My friend owned an acura legend and we would go into the nearest "big" city on the weekends and see what else was out the for cars. After a time of that i was looking high and low for any car that i could start building up or at least with the lack of money be able to play with. Another friends dad in his spare time restored old hot rods complete with custom paint and the only dsm at my school got a new coat of paint. Black with a metalic blue mitsu symbol on the hood ghosted in. I was pretty much sold on dsm's then and there with the way his dsm looked and the tag saying eclipse.

Sadly to say my first car was nothing of the performance world or even of the world of being able to do much of anything. An 88 ford escort pretty much givin to me from my grandma but hey with less than 5000 miles on it it was pretty much brand new. Owned it for a total of 3-4 days befor i was stupid enough and let a girl drive it needless to say going 60mph into a tree doesnt feel good. After that parents didnt really let me drive until my senior year. That still didnt stop me and my friend from working on his Legend and going into town and finding other cars to mess with. well he got rid of it and got a mustang.. as for me I joined up and was off to basic training and then to my first duty station of Alaska. Yes it is ass freezing up there so do ask if its cold but summers are nice. A time went by and I met a kid in my unit that was all about cars and i mean owned any and every die cast model car that had to do with imports and racing. He owned a 96 eclipse and i would ride along with him all the time. well it came to a day when he thought i needed to re-learn how to drive a stick so we used his car. from the begining it was in me to drive one. until one day I was stupid enough to play in afternoon rush hour traffic and piss a cop off. Note: residental areas and a quick route to the base were awsome back in the day...no ticket. Needless to say that was the only time i ran from the cops now i just get checked out to see if im some punk little kid trying to cause some trouble with my car.

Well the time came that i had enough money for a down payment for a car and i went with a 3g eclipse gt. looked every where for a 2g but in the middle of alaska its kinda hard to find one! So i proceded to go out to the weekend races and meet up with the local crew every chance i got. Learned alot form them might i add. People like P-nut with his ae-86 corrola along with old school lexus and such, JP who i helped so i could learn with his monster wrx that no stage number could be placed on it, and for Paul in his vwR32 that was on the same ranks of Jp's wrx. Good times and good people.

Well after some time of researching i was all but set to try and do a 3000gt motor swap to my 3g scince it shared the same v6 engine just my 3g didnt come twin turboed. Well that never happened and instead a deer decided to plant itself in my front bummper. Back to the search again i went looking all over the NY, VT, and PA area for a 2g. Found one finally in not to bad of shape and for a price i had money in cash for. sold I said for a 97 gst spyder with slight mods. Well 4 hours into my drive home from picking it up the main belt broke wich was suposably the same belt the guy just replaced. needless to say it was at 10 at night so no part stores were open so i got to have the car towed to the hotel parking lot and spend the night. Not to happy and out alot of money that was going towards upgrades for the new car just happened to go to the car in other ways than intended. Now im finding myself in the mist of starting what i would call a monster build for my spyder with a crazy goal of 9 sec flat 1/4 mile time. So now only time and money will tell if I get to complete my Goal.

Wow, that's a great story, and I'm sorry I missed your post! This thread got buried pretty quickly and I just now went searching for it and found your reply. Again, sorry about that. I really was coming here to try and rekindle some interest. I do have the DSM 1/4 mile list thread which has had some interest and some history is included there. However, I have some other things relative to the history of DSM drag racing and wanted to use this thread for that even though I did post a link to that thread when I saw this one fizzle out so to say.

Well, cool then......let's bump it up and see what we can do to make this one a bit more active.....

Lot of cool storys in here..

Mine started pretty young. I have 2 older brothers, Jeremy (12 years older) and Rob (10 years older). Both of them got 1g n/t's as their first cars back around like 2000,

Not long after this Jeremy got backed into or something (cant remember) totaling his car and took the money and bought a 1g awd. This started my family's love for dsm's.

At this time Rob had done minor things to his n/t.. Rims, exhaust, subs etc.

Then Jeremy started modding his car.. Minor things like a mbc exhaust etc. Nothing big just a bolt on car running 15-16psi on sock fuel system.

Sometime around graduation rob sold his beloved n/t and bought "old blue" a janky 1g fwd laser rs. Rough as can be but ran like a top. this is the car that changed my life. I was about 8 years old at this time. He started with just fixing it up here and there and would always take the time to teach me what the simple things where and what they did. He used to pop his hood and point at stuff and make me explain what it was and what it did.

Then he starting making a little money and started doing the same minor things Jeremy had done being sure to take the time to teach his little brother (me) what it was he was doing and why. That car quickly turned into a ported 16g safc car that would burn tires off like no other.

Around this time Jeremy got a little overconfident and came into a corner a little to fast and hit a wet spot sending him through a ditch and into a tree. Totaling the dsm that started it all. Parted the car out to bare shell and scraped it.

Then rob started losing his drive to keep "old blue" on the road after many problems and sold it and leased a s10.

not long after missed his dsm. At this time hes looking into joining the air force. Signs up and goes out and buys a black 91 talon tsi awd "black hawk". Car already had a 16g setup along with supporting mods. Nice set of koseis k1's and tinted windows.

Skip forward a year or 2 and hes now in the airforce stationed 12 hours away. Started the quest to go faster, went to a 50 trim and a few minor things.

Then the day came, First time i ever went to a drag strip. Probably about 12 years old. Watched him run his first 11 sec pass. This is when i really started getting into things. really wanting to understand the things he was doing . Once again he was there to answer all my dumb questions and help me learn.

Skip forward another few years and i was about 14 years old. Staying up all night on this site and many others. Just getting the basics down. at this time robs running low 11's. His car was like my dream car. but i really liked the roundness of 2g's.

Got my first job on my 14th bday. Saved up for about a year and sold my fourwheeler and was wanting a project bad. Right before my 15th bday i found it. A 97 talon esi, Hahn racecraft 20g turbo kit, 19" wheels, full body kit complete with big wing and all. inside was painted blue and grey had a rigged 50shot and a bottle half mounted in the trunk. After listening to rob try to talk me out of it being a dsm purist i bought it anyway. $4,500 and i had my first car. De winged it, tore everthing dash and all out and did a complete black interior swap. A lot of body work on the tore up body kit and carbon fiber hood. About this time i lost interest as the car ran lean under boost and just seemed like a lost cause motor wise as it seems most 420a projects where at this point.

My 16th bday starts getting closer and my parents (mainly mom) hated the car i was burnt out on it and it was a money pit. And i had found my first automotive love.. 2005 cobalt ss supercharged. my parents gave me the option of giving them the talon and they would buy me the cobalt that had 40k miles, black and red leather all stock with a warranty. I couldnt resist. But the talon didnt leave just yet.. more on that later.

My first summer of driving goes by. The cobalt now has an intake, exhaust, wider tires, tinted windows and painted stock wheels and badges. I had even played around re flashing the ecu with hp tuners adding a little timing. I had many little races under my belt and many stupid burnouts and fun things under my belt. Even got to take it to our local drag strip by lying about my age saying i was 18 so my parents wouldnt find out. I was known all around my little town for this thing..

At this time rob had just broke 10's on a t67. Still daily driven. I was even more in love.

Then my dad talks me into helping finish the talon off by finishing the bodywork and painting it. working a lot of the little bugs out and then sold it :(. I felt better knowing i de riced and saved a dsm even if it wasnt a real 4g63 car.

Then i get the dreaded call i never expected. "black hawk" was dead. Timing belt jumped and the valves hit the pistons, And rob had decided it was time to move on. Parted the car out, sold what he could and kinda just tucked back the stuff he couldnt.

Drove the cobalt all winter and then come spring i start wanting something new. Something new that would be a little bigger inside and just different. Sold the cobalt and bought a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee with 140k miles. Had about 3 grand left over for a lift and some tires. well those plans went out the window within a week when the oil pump died spinning the number 1 rod bearing along with tearing up the cyl walls and all.

Then i decided i got a few grand to play with lets do something different. Within a few months of research, head aces and driving moms mini van i had a jeep man van with a 4.7l stroked straight six with a nasty cam ported head and full supporting mods. I had finished my first big motor project and had a blast and it ran good for a suv. But i wanted speed again now. I wanted more then it had to offer. So i took a big loss and sold it for 6 grand after putting about 4 in the motor alone.

Starting looking at higher millage srt4's and stuff while kicking around the idea of maybe a dsm.. Maybe.

Then remembered my friends uncle had a silver 92 gsx that he bought wrecked with minor front end damage a few years before. Sure enough the car is now fixed with new mitsu silver paint all around still sitting bone stock with 94k miles on the clock and the owners manual still in the glove box. hmm i figured cant hurt to go check it out.. After walking around the car he told me knowing my love for the cars i could have it for $2400, So i drove home that day grabbed the cash and drive the car home that night. I finally had the true dsm i always wanted to own one day. 2 days later i went to the track for the first time and busted a 14.75 on bald 205's bone stock with a full take of gas. I knew i had just got a steal.

To make it better as kinda a way to remember where it started rob gave me the wheels, gauge cluster, weighted shift knob, boost gauge, polly mounts and a few other things all in memory of black hawk. The whole reason i wanted a dsm..

Now iv had the car about 3 months and almost 18 years old. The car is now at 14psi with the above along with a hallmen pro, k&n filter with plans of a turbo back exhaust and dsmlink once the weather breaks. Couldnt be happier and can say il have this car for many years to come.

My DSM History hasn't even began yet. But my drag career started when I was 14. I first got into cars when I was around 9, my dad did all the maintenance on all of our cars, one day I went out into the garage to see what he was doing. When I got out, he handed me a flashlight, I pointed, he worked. He started pointing out parts on HIS 97 Talon TSi(first encounter), it was his weekend warrior. He had been into BBC's, and Malibu's. He got out when he got with my mom, she wouldn't let him have a fast car (poor guy). Anyways, he pointed out the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, the turbo, the side mount. I was hooked from then on!

Around the time I was 12 we got a New 99 Cobra Mustang, it was the best thing since sliced bread at the time. IRS, 5 Speed, 4V. It was a great car. He keep that car as his cruiser. And raced the DSM to an 11 second pass. About 1 month later he sold it to fund parts for the Cobra. He installed a Vortech T Trim on the stock motor. IT was really fast then. Ran a few 11's then blew up.. He never did get another fast car. That was the car I learned to drive in.

When I turned 14 I got a Jr. Dragster for my birthday. Oh god was that fun! I was a 7 second 1/8th miler! It had like 60hp, LOL. I wrenched on it ALL THE TIME! I came home, did my home work, and worked on it or read car books until my bed time. That was a fun time in my life.

Fast forward to when I turned 16. I was wanting a car obviously. I wanted a Mustang. a Fox to be specific, it was just the way those old pushrods sounded! They just talked to me! I was in love with a certain Black Fox, it was a 5.0, with aT5. Stock as stock could be! But I wanted it! I had looked at it with my dad a few weeks earlier, and it was just a great car. He knew I wanted it! I came outside in the morning on my birthday, there it was, sitting there, glimmering in the morning light. I melted, I was in love, with a CAR! I spent ALL DAY EVERY DAY with it! Within a year it had a 357W, Old Edelbrock Victors, and a 750DP Holley Carb, with a rebuilt T5 and I think the first NOS kit ever made. It ran a 10, I was the happiest kid on earth!

Again fast forward, 2006, I'm 21, I have graduated HS and don't know what I want to do in life, I work at a tire shop. I saved most of my money and sold my fox. I went out and bought an 01 Cobra, I needed something with better gas mileage, and a little better ridding. I did simple bolt on's and a 100 shot of giggle juice. Was a nice DD, sounded good, looked good, and was relatively fast. I ended up selling that in college.

2 Years ago, 2008, I'm 23 and in school. I sell my 99 in hopes of buying a 03, at the time I had around 6K saved up and was about to graduate, I had more money coming in and had 2 jobs. I ended up paying 22.5K on a Black 03 Cobra, with 14K on the clock. Boy was it fast with a 2.76 pulley, bolt on's and 480rwhp! That is my current car, which is now, well lets say beyond the point of no return! Now with a 5.4, C4, Solid Rear, and a GT4788, it has ran a 8, a high as hell one, but an 8. It is at a point now where it is not the best DD. So now in search of a DSM, my DSM story will finally begin.

You're the second person to say insurance on these things is cheap. It might be because I'm 19, but my insurance even on my mom's '00 vs mustang is less than it was on my '90 awd. Cheapest quote I got for BARE MINIMUM legal insurance was 750 every 6 months!

My insurance on my honda at 16 wasn't even that expensive, nor my mom's mustang.

Never had a wreck or a speeding ticket - not even a warning! in 3 years, and then this thing came along and BAM! the price went up LOL.

But anyways, I would love to have a 1ga Talon or a 2gb Eclipse over an EVO just for the love, but damn do EVO's look sexy. If I'm on a "budget" I'll rock the DSM, but if I can splurge I'd love an EVO, especially since the 8's and 9's (the ones I love the most) will be nearing 10 years old each by then (I'll graduate in 2013, assuming the world doesn't end in 2012! :tease:). If I can really splurge, I want both :D

I pay 220 for 6 months, full coverage with a 250 dollar deductible. I was just in a at fault accident so... we will see what it becomes...
