Hey all. I took some pics of the party me and my buddies spun at this weekend. It was one of them damn "raver" parties. It rained friggin hard, but everything was covered, and the true stuck it out. The music was loud and badass, our hut all spun DnB, the other 2 spun house/trance. Do any of you fellow DSMers go to parties like this, or DJ? Just seeing what you are all into.

I spin DnB, my favorite producers/groups are Bad Company, Tech Itch, Dylan, Dillinja, Dara, Panacea, Cylon, all good stuff.

The first pic is a kid that was so grilled out of his mind his pupils were the size of his iris'.

2nd: My long lost brother Harlo, bad-ass DJ.

3rd: This is a good silhouette (sp?), would make a good sig i think.

4th: Costume party a few nights before...L-R (me, SPL, Harlo) I was all sorts of feeling
good at that time, my buddy 19 yr old SPL (signed a deal with Sinuous Records out of the UK -friggin DnB prodigy child, and to the far right is my other good buddy Harlo (nice sh!t eatin grin!)

5th: another DJ this weekend, i thought his tattoo was pretty bad-ass, for those of you who dont get his tattoo...that is the MetalHeadz logo (nutty-ass insane DnB group)

I've always wanted to go to a rave or two or... well, as many as I can and I plan on saving up for turntables, mixer, headphones, etc. once I get a job. I'm pretty heavy into trance with some of my favorite DJ's being Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, etc.

I havent produced any tracks myself, Harlo and my brother produce tracks, not to mention SPL (the kid dressed like jesus)...he produces some of the most insane DnB tracks ive heard in a long time...all out of his bedroom. I have a couple friends who used to be 'ravers', before they came into the military. Never been to one myself tho...

If you're in the Air Force, raves are no-no's. Can get into some deep shit if you're caught at one...

I'm guessing it's the same in other branches, though..?

I met a girl lately who's really into 'em and she's got me excited. Except I'm not lookin' forward to the rampant drugs that go on.

ELECTRONICA. Not Techno. Unless you're actually talking about techno.

Electronica is the overall genre, like rock, rap, etc.

techno, trance, dnb, etc. are subgenres like punk rock, metal, etc.

I know the overall genre is called Electronica, but I've been calling it Techno out of habit back when I first got in to it; the first time I heard Blue from Eiffel 65. I don't mean to argue technicalities or step on toes.

I've loved techno since i was a kid, wanted to learn and mix but then it seems it went too pop, everyone wants a turntable now, and everyones got a friend who's a dj.

Haven't been into it that much although i wanted to go to tiesto in atlanta a few months back, but i still manage to jam to prodigy and some good essential mix cd's and the like.

Good to see some kids still having fun though.

I Agree, It did go pop. but there are Very Few DJ's tht Actualy spin live. Actualy make a dent in the scene. Its still underground. Very much underground. how many DJ's do you see on TV???? how many DJ's do you hear about on the Radio????

Blue was like my gateway drug.

Now, as I've never done drugs before, this analogy will be a little crude:

Blue was my first wiff of the good stuff. I took it for a while, dug it more with every fix, and eventually grew too eager to stick with it. I continued to explore and taste the bigger and better stuff until I found myself contently addicted inside my Electronica bubble.

Or something.

So yea, compared to what I like now, it sucks a bit. But the Blue brings back the Nostalgia, and sentiment is fly. Yo.

cool ... When I went looking for a desk, I didn't care much for the wooden one's. When I saw this one though, I bought it right away. It matched my Sony Vaio computer. Blue/Grey

It does seem that way. When I bought my first set of tables, there weren't as many "dj's" as there seems to be today. Like PogiTSI said there aren't many that are actually doing something with it. Most of the "dj's" that everyone knows are just spinning in their bedrooms/basements. Dj's/turntablist are still more underground than mainstream. Also, IMO, a real DJ spins on Vinyle not cd's. With the age of the Digital Dj, the true artform has been lost. There still are many out there that have stayed true to the 12". To me, that is a real DJ/turbtablist. If you have a set of cd tables for parties or things like that, then that's cool. As long as you do have your vinyle at home. I know it's a bi*** to carry around 2 techs and a bunch of crates. The difference is like this... you wouldn't call yourself a tuner cause you built a car on Need for Speed Underground, would you??? Pressing buttons to build your car.

There are chicks left and right, freak-dancing here and there. That party i spun at this weekend had a friggin hot female-DJ at the trance stage a few hundred yards away.

Now to all this reference to "blue" being the type of sh!t you hear at raves, you people need to pull your head out of your ass's and get into the scene. You will not find a song played at a party that has been on the top 10 chart. Unless youre looking at a UK chart or something which deals with that particular type of music..not something you see on TRL. That mainstream stuff doesnt fly...people will BOOOO you and call you a "F*CKING SELLOUT!" right to your face, believe me.

Go on Kazaa or whatever program you may have and look up such artists/labels as Dillinja, Loxy, Ink, Bad Company, Technical Itch, GRIDLOCK, Grid. Those are all D&B. I will try and get a audio link on here of some really good music. Look up www.breakbeatscience.com click on their new vinyl releases, and just sample some of the tracks they have for sale. That is some of the stuff you will hear at parties, not that BLUE shat. That is where i am going to start buying my vinyl.
