This car was sold several years ago to a friend of mine, then sold to another guy. I’ve just purchased the car back in a non running state. Previous owner did a timing belt and upon firing it up the motor jumped time.
Found the tensioner pulley not set right and I believe that’s where it all went wrong. Pulled the head and found a few bent valves. I’ll be doing a head swap and digging into a few other possible issues and gremlins with the car as o try to figure out its future. Not sure if I’ll be gutting it to turn into a budget track car and chase down some hondas as a 11.50-12.50 index car or attempt to clean it up and sell it for profit or part it out. It’s still a rust free shell with some minor body rust in a few spots with 230+k on it now.

Got the car pushed towards the garage finally for reassembly. Block surface is cleaned and head studs reinstalled. Going through engine degreaser, kroil, and carb clean like it’s my job. Waiting on gasket kits now so it can be put back together

Picture update of Patches it’s runs now. Still doesn’t drive due to clutch issues. It’s for sale, we shall see what happens....

Sadly it’s time for an update I wasn’t so sure was going to happen. After sitting for a while with clutch engagement issues I kept lowering the price until I had a solid offer come through. I decided to take a few hours before pick up happened and see if I could find the cause of the issue. I did. Clutch pedal rod wasn’t fully adjusted right and it was overlooked because I was tired and worn out the last time I worked on it. I threw a gallon or so of fresh gas in it to mix with the other stuff that’s been sitting for years and fire it up to give it a go. Clutch worked now. Caught a bit low but I was able to drive it around the block. Brought back a ton of memories and almost cancelled the deal to keep the car but with listing the house for sale it had to be done. The car left with a good friend and fellow enthusiast however it’s future isn’t so bright... it still may get saved or it may be parted. The car is right in the middle of that fine line between saving or stripping sadly. It was a fun project for me to get it running again, I have the closure with it that I needed. (I know, it’s just a car) but this is the one that started it all for me. I even took the time to wash it. I’ll see you on the other side Patches.
