So recently i changed the oil in a eclipse because the light was on(Long story short the car was supposedly low on oil for about a mile or 2) and my friend wanted to install gauges in it. So we change the oil install the gauges and turn the car but only to see the oil press. gauge and the oil temp. gauge not moving
(after a while the pressure gauge will jump up and down) but the volts gauge was perfect. Also the oil light is on and it flickers :hmm:. We did everything by the book filled the oil filter with oil, shaked it a little to get the bubbles out, put oil around the gaskets of the filter and adapter. There are no leaks AT ALL not even a drip from anywhere. :banghead:
Bad oil pump maybe?

Bad oil pump maybe?

Maybe... if so, that's probably not all that's bad. I'd be prepared to start looking for a new engine. The oil light comes on when there's virtually no oil pressure to the engine, meaning there's a good chance some serious damage has already been done.

What gauges did you install?
Did you splice into any factory wiring when installing the gauges?
How does the car run/sound? Any knocks?

Oil pressure oil temp and volt meter
No i used a add a circuit fuse
it runs fine, theres a knocking/ticking sound on start up and when you rev the engine but not at idle.
And w e also found out that the power steering is messed up, when you turn the wheel theres a loud screeching kinda sound.

does the power steering and oil pump run off the same belt? if so i'm thinking the belt might be loose and causing both these problems.

No, the oil pump is fixed to the crankshaft; there is no belt to fail. I hate to say it, but that knocking sound you're hearing sounds like a spun bearing to me.

The power steering pump shares a pump with the A/C compressor. Try tightening it.

Is changing the oil pump a hard job? I heard you need a special tool to get a bolt off or something.

It's not the easiest job... you do need special tools to remove both the crankshaft pulley and timing sprocket, and you will need to re-do all of the timing. You'll also have to remove the oil pan. The whole job is definitely easier when the engine is out of the car, but it's definitely do-able in-car.

ok so i found out what the problem really is. When my friend changed the oil he didnt tell me the oil pan was smashed in(probably someone jacked the engine from there and crushed it) So i took it off and guess what i found out the oil pan was blocking the tube that sucks up oil. :notgood: :banghead:

So we got a new oil pan and that tube and started it up and now the car runs perfect no ticking nocking or nothing.

But now theres another problem I let the car run and after a few mins it shut off my fuel guage says it has 1/4 tank but when i go to turn it on it acts as it has no gas (it wants to start but it doesnt) could it be that my fuel guage is broken? Another thing when i turn the car off my fuel guage stays at the same place is this normal?

Could it be the car has no gas? or something else?

When you turn the car off the fuel gauge will remain where it is.

So, you're saying when your engine is warm it's having trouble starting? If that's the case I would bet it has something to do with the CLT (Coolant Temp Sensor). You can test it's resistance to check it, or just replace it.
77*F = 9k-11k Ohm
212*F = 600-800 Ohm
That's the values, if you're looking to test it.
