I just bought a new replacement oil cooler for my Eclipse GSX 6 bolt swap. It has the external air oil cooler. I want to put it on the driver's side opposite of where the stock side mount would be on the passenger side, but there is a big grey/black plastic box thing there. I've search around on here, but I haven't been able to figure out what that is. Could someone tell me. I would like to know what it is, if it's essential to the car, and where I could possibly move it to if it is essential. Thanx for the help.

Yeah it does have a mess of pipes around and in it. So I guess moving it is probably out of the question. Anyone have any recommendations on where would be a good place to put my oil cooler? I would like to keep the lines as short and efficient as possible.

They go stock in fron t of the radiator on our 1G 6-bolts. That's probably a good place and allow you to use most of the bends for the same cooler as they are. I have my stock cooler behind my front mount and it has worked fine so far. Oil doesn't show signs of needing to be changed any earlier.

+1
in this location the radiator fans will pull air through the oil cooler when temps go up. Just make sure you keep the plastic ducts in place around the radiator.
