OBX has new 4g64 manifold (looks similar to ERL Placement)

Words of warning...

Do not use the crap gaskets provided with this manifold. I used my nice graphite gasket on the head/mani seal. It seems to be working great. The supplied nuts immediately loosened up and the gasket blew on the T3 connection. I bought some good mech locking nuts and installed the turbo with no gasket. Seems to seal well. I'd check your flanges and make sure they are flat on both your turbo housing and manifold before install. (lucky for me they seem to have been flat) Also I'd order a graphite type t3 gasket before install.

I had to tweak the oil dipstick tubing about 4" towads the block to clear the WG on my setup. No big deal, didn't even un-bolt it.

Is that a bep .70 t3 housing? also where did you get the piece that adapts the turbine housing to the stock location downpipe?

He's running the smaller Garret .63 housing. The BEP T3 housings only come in 3" V-Band.

I've actually been trying to get my had one one of them, if anyone knows of one FS lemme know.

I guess I should have posted here alot sooner. The 4G63 and 4G64 heads have the same exhaust flange bolt pattern, BUT the 4G64 has significantly smaller ports. The OD of the 4G64 manifold port is almost the exact same size as the ID of the 4G63 port itself. I made the mistake of ordering a cast t3 4g64 manifold from ebay for my Mighty Max project a while back. I spent countless hours attempting to port it enough to realize I wasn't even going to meet the stock port size of the 4g63.
What's really sad about it is, it was absolutely perfect in the pictures for my setup with the placement of everything for a Mighty Max. Damn, I miss that truck.

The OD port sizes of my OBX are actually a hair larger than the head ports. The ID ports of the manifold match up fairly close to the head ports. Maybe not exact like a Shearer or something equivalent, but then again I have never seen one in person to now. But with my budget I think this will be ok. Just trying to have fun not break any records or anything.

Make sure to wash out the manifold though. Lots of debris from factory porting of the welds.

I wouldn't say "the norm" but considering I paid $1300 for the car, a $200 holset and $170 manifold seem appropriate together. I don't have the budget to buy $1500 bb turbos and $800 manifolds right now. This "cheap junk" allows me to keep busy doing a hobby I love instead of just reading about other peoples builds.
Its funny, my best friend just bought a 911 gt3. I was driving it last week and was telling him" yea I just bought this awesome turbo for $200 thats good for 500hp", .

Okay so I received mine today. It was packaged up really well. Not just thrown in a box like the other one I saw. Pulled all the packing paper out, pulled the plastic off, and the welds looked pretty decent. Although I can tell some of the welds were done, then rewelded over. But still, it looked waaaay better than I thought it would in person. The studs included with it are junk. Gonna get my own of course. And the only real problem I have is that the holes in the flange where it bolts to the head don't line up properly so right now I can't even test fit it to the head. I'm gonna have to widen the holes on some of them. But not a huge deal. Still, looks pretty good for $170 shipped. I'll try and post pics up a bit later.

Okay, so here's a few more pics, but need to take a few more with some of the issues I'm having (nothing too major that I can't fix though). A few of them have my HX35 bolted up loosely.

Okay in this one you can see where they welded the manifold and then tig welded over it to kind of pretty it up. But personally, if it doesn't crack, I don't care. If it cracks, oh well, I'll break out the welder.

If you look in this one, the studs aren't parallel. The right one points to the right, left one to the left. I can't install the turbo with the studs installed. I have to put the turbo up to the manifold and then thread in the studs. No biggie but may have to widen one of the holes on the turbine housing a very slight bit.

Now the inlet ports seem to be a pretty decent size to be honest and I've seen ebay manifolds that were way smaller. These actually LOOK to be the same size as the head ports, but I haven't had a chance to measure them yet. But still, it looks pretty decents. It has a few small issues but nothing major and I'm in no way complaining about it at ALL!!!! It'll get me by and serve the purpose that I paid for it. If you pay $170 shipped for a manifold like this, you're an idiot if you expect the same quality from a $1,000 manifold. I'm on a tight budget though, and when it's bolted up, I'm sure it'll look great. I'll get a more expensive manifold later IF this one gives me issues I can't fix, but for now, this will do. Just trying to help people to be educated buyers though.

I'll be breaking out my Dremel tool here soon I think.

Did any of you other guys have any installation issues? I emailed them to see if they'd do an exchange or anything. Waiting to hear back. I can widen the holes but I'd "prefer" to not mess around with it or have to drill on my brand new turbine housing. Took a few more pics last night.

To my knowledge, the 1g and 2g exhaust ports are the same. It's the intake side that's different. And the manifold looks about the same size the exhaust ports.

The reason your studs are not pointing straight up is because the flange is warped. The flange is extremely easy to warp when welding on it if you dont have it properly braced in the jig. The high temperature of the arc warps stuff like that really easily. You're gonna have to have that fixed at a machine shop. Have them weld the holes closed, resurface the flange, then re-drill and re-tap the holes.

Just send it back. Mine bolted up perfectly and both surfaces were flat. I'm not even using a gasket on the t3 turbo side. Seals great. Your manifold does look like it was rewelded. Mine doesn't look that way.

Maybe the cheaper manifolds were bad castings or damaged stock and the ebay seller is just rewelding them and reselling them? I did pay more for mine, but it fit great. That being said you can get a large peace of glass and some 400 grit wetsand paper to get a nice surface on the flanges. (may start with somethign more coarse depending on how bad it is) Also drilling out the holes and using nice thick washers won't hurt a thing IMO.

I'm a good 300 miles into the clutch/new trans break in procedure. I'll be able to put some boost to mine soon. I was running 8lbs and did a few small 2nd gear pulls yesterday. Lag was pretty bad with my setup, .2psi by 3400 8.5 psi by 4400. I also haven't gotten around to re-routing my IC piping yet so I haven't done a leak check.

I checked my flanges with a straight edge and they look good. I did have to open up the two rear holes on the turbo housing. I know why. The flange on the manifold isn't the same thickness on all sides,haha.

I put a good 400 miles on the new trans and clutch. Also did a boost leak check. Only leak I found was around the compressor housing snap ring. Used some silicone to seal it as much as I could.

Did a few conservative 3rd gear 25-26psi pulls. Spool-up is slower than I would have guessed. Although I left alot on the table as far as timing and AFR. Also using a spring and ball type MBC, not a bleed valve. Feels really strong once it kicks in. I'm going to need some larger injectors. These 1000's are about maxed out.

I would seal it before final install. It mainly leaks from the open area on the snap ring where the two ends don't meet.

I wonder if we're the only 3 guys on this forum that'll be running this manifold. Lol. I'm still waiting to see if they'll exchange mine. Just looked in the box yesterday and saw the warranty card that warranties against defects, etc. So I don't see any reason why I WOULDN'T have a new one sent to me.

Well it sure didn't take long to crack! I'm right at 500 miles. 475 or so were break in miles. I was hoping for a few good years out of it...
