O2 Reading question

Just installed a A/F Gauge using the VFAQ directions. I tapped into the single wire under the pasenger side vent as the directions said. Now, my gauge always reads RICH. It is always at max and does not bounce at all. My car has been getting lower than usual gas mileage so am I running pretty rich then or is my gauge messed-up or did I tap into the wrong wire? I have that idle surge problem, could that have something to do with this? May be an O2 sensor?

Any suggestions would be greatly apprechiated...

Take off your plugs. If they have a fuzzy black all over them then you are running rich.

Get someone to log your O2 voltage for you and see what's up.
