'98 2G Tsi. New engine on original everything - wiring, fuel, coils, etc. Coils wired correctly. Car cranks and gives a mild misfire.

Crank sensor installed carefully so I assume it's right. Need to re-check cam sensor.

Before I tear into this much more what would a mild misfire about once a rotation indicate ? If either sensor were off, would engine get spark?

You ninja editor you.
If it's a coil or the power transistor, you will always lose 2 cylinders.

But that still doesn't explain the dry cylinder. If the noid light blinks, the injector should be spraying.

Then it seems to be coming down to a bad injector or a bad coil. Both were running before the rebuild but that's been a couple of years. The original transistor is clearly shot but #2, #3, and #4 are on now so if they energize in pairs, the replacement transistor is good.

Plug is new and gapped, and plug wire is fine. Cyl looks dry but I can't be 100% sure. Plug insulator may be damp, can't really say.

I should swap injectors between #1 and another cylinder...

It appears to have been a reluctant #1 injector. I checked everything else mentioned above and found that once it idled a little longer it smoothed out. It also liked 1500-2000 rpm much better than idle so I let it figure itself out and eventually it was fine. Currently idles high at 900.

Ran it up to thermostat temp and shut it off. Will do this a couple times, retorque the head, and call it good.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. Greatly appreciated. If anyone knows how to adjust throttle position w/o logging, pls let me know. Referring to this thread.
