No pull @ 5th gear with Greddy BOV & IC pipe kit

Here's the specs on the vehicle:

97 GSX w/ 85k miles
KN FIPK
Autometer A/F, Boost, EGT gauges
2.5" downpipe
Everything else stock
12psi boost
Just installed Greddy IC pipe kit w/ Type-S BOV

Everything seems fine in normal city driving. The boost comes up nicely to 12 psi on acceleration, vacuums to ~18 on idle. However, when I get on the highway, there just doesn't seem to be much pull going WOT from about 60mph.:cry: This is after installing the IC pipe kit and the Type-S BOV. Before, with stock piping and BOV, I used to get a pretty good pull at the high end. I boost gauge does show 12 psi at WOT on the highway, but there is a definite absence in the "feel" of the pull. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Someone suggested that maybe there is too much airflow now and I need to upgrade my FP :O, but it seems like I didn't make enough modifications yet to need a bigger FP. Is this my problem? Any help is appreciated. :thumb:
 
what rpm are you not seeing pull? the stock t-25 runs out of oomph at about 6000-6500 rpm's. You arent gonna see much with those mods.

Well, it's right around 3000rpm range (about 50-60mph in 5th gear). I wasn't expecting much difference... it's just that it feels way worse than it was with stock IC piping :( , but only on the highway.
 
check to make sure you don't have a leak.. i don't get that much pull at 3k on my 14b, and that's because it doesn't get to its fullest at 3.5k at WOT. try it in 4th and see what happens. run it to about 6k and see.

I did double and triple check for leaks, so I think leak isn't an issue. But when I punch it in 5th gear, it seems like when I get up to about 4K - 4.5K rpm, the tach and the engine starts to oscillate in that rpm range. I don't notice this on WOT, but when I slowly accelerate. :mad:

Maybe I should just get a new FP... was gonna get one anyways. But do you think more fuel will fix this problem? :|
 
Yes, it does stutter at around 4-4.5k rpm, but only in 4-5th gear. On the lower gears, no problem. Thanks for your insight on the FP. I was told by someone that the problem might be because I have too much air flow now with the new IC piping :rolleyes:
 
I don't know. Any suggestions? I'm still doing research on it. I am planning on taking it into a mechanic for diagnosis if I can't figure it out soon.
 
upgrade your fuel pump and rewire it at the same time,you are going on that route any way try that,dont take the car to the mechanic they cant figure that out, you are just gonna waste your time money, how did you check your leaks did you use that leak tester tool(home made one form home depo). :|
 
Just to give you guys a heads up on what happened....

It appears as though the stock clutch finally gave out. I'm not sure why, but I guess the clutch wasn't grabbing in the higher gears first. After a couple of weeks, the clutch stopped grabbing in all the gears. :barf:

Time for a ACT 2600 :cool:
