I was looking at getting a key fob for my talon, so I tore into the guts of my backseat to see if I had a keyless entry receiver. Good news is I do, bad news is there is seemingly no information available for my unit (FCC ID: GQ43VT8R), only a single comment on the entire site (besides this thread now). The part number on mine, MB953726, is stamped into the bracket instead of molded into the plastic. Searching this part number shows a lot images with the FCC ID: GQ43VT8R, but again this FCC ID has essentially never been discussed anywhere as far as I can tell.

Just to make things more difficult, googling FCC ID: GQ43VT8R in hopes of finding an OEM or aftermarket key fob only gives me back the keyless entry receiver unit.. so it seems like I can't get a fob for this unit.

Besides replacing the keyless entry receiver with the more common FCC ID:GQ43VT6T unit, I'm curious to hear if anybody has any information which could be useful. With parts dwindling, it's only a matter of time before someone else comes along asking the same question and I'm hoping they'll be able to find an answer here.

I've been reading through TRW documents all day and it was a bit surprising to see that logo on something from a DSM. I've never seen it outside of work before.

Thanks for sharing. I did see this stuff on other key fob threads, but my issue is that there are no replacement fobs for my specific FCC ID. Unless I am understanding this completely wrong, the key fob and keyless entry receiver must have matching FCC IDs, but the only available replacement fobs have the FCC ID: GQ43VT6T which would not work with my FCC ID: GQ43VT8R receiver.

I may be overthinking this, but the T at the end of the code probably stands for Transmitter and the R stands for Receiver. If that's the case, GQ43VT8R would be the FCC ID for they key fob to match my receiver. I don't want to go out and purchase anything until I can wrap my head around all this first.

FYI - @randman2011 I pulled my power steering rack to rebuild & they're TRW partnered with Koyo & have a TRW logo metal plaque also.

the Fcc Id
comes up as TRW

I tend to do that a lot. I imagine that if the FCC ID mismatch between OEM fob and OEM receiver was actually a problem, I wouldn't be the first person to notice, especially 20+ years down the line. I'll go ahead and buy an OEM fob and update this thread with the end result.

If you give the info you have to the seller of the remote the chances are about 10:1 he can tell you whether his item will work. Most of those places are specialists ... they KNOW the business.

FWIW I've now bought two Mitsu cars in that era, discovered they had RKE installed (which neither PO knew), gotten fobs, followed the appropriate synch procedure, and ... voila!

Also installed RKE in a Mitsu that didn't have it ... there's a bunch of wires and you have to make a couple compromises but it can be done to any with electric door locks.

Good luck with it!

Finally got my fob in the mail, first one got lost so thanks DHL, second one took less than a week to arrive. Using the 97+ method, had no issues and the fob talks to the receiver despite the FCC ID differences on each unit. Plus I managed to get a fob with the key ring bit still intact.

@MattHDSM so which FOB did you buy eventually?
I bought a TRW (OMRON Copy) w/ panic button (should be MR123944) off ebay. I think all you need is the FCC ID to match and the fob will work, and in that case it was FCC ID: GQ43VT6T. Either the mitsu part number or FCC ID should be searchable and give you a result and somewhere to buy one. No issue pairing, however my only complaint is that the horn doesn't beep if you double-press lock. Not sure if that's by design or not.
