I had the stock ic on my 98 gst. I believe I have the small NPR, it fits perfectally in the opening of my stillen bumper, the big npr is a lot bigger than that right?

Anyway, I got everything tightened down and no diff. than the side mount, actually lost a little low end. WTF is going on here, I was hopeing to get good gains from this. Any ideas on what could be wrong? here are my mods

TDO5 18G TURBO (ported and clipped)
34 mm WASTE GATE
AFC
660 INJECTORS
ATR 3" TURBO BACK EXHAUST
HIGH FLOW CAT
BOOST CONTROLLER
INTAKE
GREDDY ICP
TYPE S BOV
NGK PLUGS (BP7ES)
NPR FMIC
255 FP

FPR going on today

will I need to turn the bost up higher now to make more hp or should it be better without adjusting anything? I am running 18 psi. Does the AFC need to be adjusted to this IC?
thanks for any suggestions guys

You are probably heatsinking that small sidemount, that you just bought. You should have a fmic with the setup that you have right now.

The primary purpose of an FMIC, as I understand it, is to reduce the intake air temp so that, under boost, you have a lower instance of detonation.

If you ain't boostin very much, an FMIC isn't going to show huge gains because you are not approaching a detonation threshold and thus your timing wasn't being pulled before, and will give a small loss on the low end because you now have a bigger chamber to pressurize than before (the stck SMIC is very small, but the benefit of that is that it is very quick to pressurize your entire intake).

What boost are you running?

hmm.. maybe that fmic just sucks. You would see a gain on the stock t-25. Have you tested it at higher speeds and rpm's? That is where you will see the gain at mostly.

just quit being a cheap ass and buy a good intercooler to go with the rest of your quality componets. someone told me once, "mod cheap, mod twice.":thumb:

MY NPR Intercooler was used on a 9 second celica with results around 8oocfm, the problem isn't the intercooler. Although My NPR does have different endtanks on it so it exits east to west rather than a 75 degree angle out the back side like the one you probably have.

You should be able to turn your boost up now & gain good horsepower. You need to be data logging to go into this range as to be carfull not to get into knock. Also go ahead & reset your computor so it can relearn timing & fuel & then start turning up the boost & tune your AFC. You should also run racegas to go any higher on the boost & the gains will be on the topend. Also make sure you dont have any boost leaks. You can probably go up to 20 on the pump gas if the intercooler is a good one but go to about 22 to 26psi on the racegas. Remeamber each car is differant on what it can do & increasements should be done in little steps & tune as you go.GOOD LUCK & be carfull.

by teh way your FMIC looks mean behind taht bumper man...i saw it the other day....i hope you get it working right bro

Did you ever figure out what your problem was?
I'm still curious if getting this will be worth it or not. Like I said earlier, I found one like yours and a larger one. I could probably get either for $200. The large one is in perfect condition.
Thanks

They make three different NPR's as far as I can see the the largest one wouldn't fit unless you wanted it to hang about 3 inches from the ground. And I don't forsee anyone needing one that is 17" high anyways. I would buy the NPR and find someone to rework the endtanks so they exit like most FMIC and then most piping kits you can purchase could work with this. I had an exhaust shop bend all the pipes for my intercooler and air-intake pipes. They did a hell of a job, although it set me back a little more than $550 which almost would have made a kit be more sensible. Also buying about 7 silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps at about $75. Although I paid $300 for the NPR that already had the endtanks side to side and not in the back. So I'm looking at nearly $925 for my whole IC setup. If I could do it again I would have bought a kit, although it still is very impressive and the pressure drop and boost lag is true anyways because of the 60-trim I'm running.

Just my 2 cents!
Joe

yeah, I knew the large one would be to tall but I figured that it would be easy to cut off a few inches of the cooler(height wise), seal the ends that were cut off, and then have 2.5 piping installed in the end tanks.
Since I would have to modify the endtanks on the smaller one anyway, if I modified the large one, I could get a couple more inches of height out of it.
I figure I'll go look at both of them again tomorrow and get a better idea of what it will take.
What do you think?

What turbo are you running? The large one has alot of flow which may just end up slowing you down a bit if you dont have a large enough turbo to fill it. I found a shop that would motify the NPR, they had state of the art exact laser cutting so they could take heignt away, then they were going to relocated the end tanks to the sides and I got an initil quote of $250, although that was without the aluminium and IC exit pipes. SO when it came down to it I found the NPR I got already motified for $300, so unless you really love the NPR or you are getting it for free I would almost reccommend one from this place:

They are very reasonable, and I think DSMTalk has a groupbuy for a even lower price. They also sell these on Ebay so you may be able to get a better deal on there too. Although good luck with it either way!
