#1 is the engine in a GSX the same in a GS-T?
#2 what is a 6 bolt, 7 bolt… etc? Which is better?
#3 how would I identify if #2 applies to me
1. Generally speaking yes
2. Highly subjective. Most people prefer the 6 bolt. There are 2 7 bolt. 1g and 2g and they have internal differences.
3. If your car still has the original motor it is a 2g 7 bolt. Additionally there were some changes that only applied to 98 and 99 models and those changes are generally considered to more desirable. The thrust bearing design changed.

Please take some time and look at the resources page. Decades of archived information

6-bolt vs. 7-bolt refers to the number of bolts on the rear of the crankshaft. You can't see it unless you pull the transmission and expose the flywheel/flex plate. There are other differences between the two engine designs that are immediately apparent to one who knows what to look for (eg. crank angle sensor position).

The GST and GSX both came with a turbo charged Mitsubishi 4G63 engine.
