Ok guys, here's the thing, I have just purchased a new Turbochargers Big T28 Killer and am about to install it. However, I have also just talked to a personal friend and experienced mechanic. From what he told me, he said that it is a bad idea to install the turbo onto my engine because he said that I could blow my engine due to excessive pressure or pressure that is more than the engine was built for. I took his comment into consideration and now I am unsure if I really want to go through with the new turbo install. I am having Mike from Diamond Star Specialties do the install for me also. I have already gone through an engine 2 months ago due to a main rod bearing failure and I don't want to experience that again. Any advice or comments would really help, thanks.

yeah..i cant raise it anyway, i dont have fuel mods to support high boost

I'd say 10-12 lbs of boost to start. If you are running stock injectors you'll hit fuel cut (like hitting a brick wall) if you turn the boost pressure up too high. At least thats what happened to me. I hit fuel cut at 14 lbs though with a newly converted 2.75" turbo-back.

i'm not running into any fuel cut problems, but as for now, i am running extremely rich. I tried taking out the lower honeycomb and resetting my ecu..but i'm still runing rich like a mofo

back the screw out in your maf. that will help a teensy bit.

The t-28 has a ball-bearing center section right? Depending on what other mods you have, it should work fine but your peak hp and tq will be much higher than stock.

i dont think it has a ball bearing sectioin on there. as for the maf screw, it's lowered down all the way. should i remove 1 or the two side honeycombs?

yeah, i know what you're talking about man. it's down and out of the air path's way.

Does you mechanic work on DSMs? From the statement I don't think he does. Go ahead and put the turbo on. There are people running huge turbos on stock internals without problems. Just keep the boost down until you get the proper supporting mods. It angers me to see another mechanic speaking beyond his experience. If the turbo was meant to be placed on a built engine, I believe the manufacturer would have a disclaimer stating that. Swap the T28 in and you'll wonder why you ever doubted youself. BTW, the Killer Big 28 is NOT a ball bearing turbo. It uses a stage 2 turbine wheel with a Big16G compressor wheel. You can see the differences on their website.

BTW, my car is running really rich right now, and I've recently talked to a frirend and he said that I should go ahead with my new turbo install. The bigger turbo will allow more air to come into the engine, therefore leaning out the mixture. Anybody else agree to this statement? (Big T28 Killer BTW)

if only it were that simple...............

You should be fine. Although I highly recommend a boost gauge and egt gauge if you don't already have them. I ran my FP Big28 at 15 to 17 psi on my stock 450's with just a fuel pump for fuel mods, and the car ran perfectly fine. With proper tuning, and the right fuel mods, our engines are capable of with standing 400whp or about 450 crank hp on stock internals.

Your friend is an idiot. Keep him as a friend if you like, but don't let him touch your car. He obviously knows NOTHING about turbos or DSM's.

On a tangent; you say your car is running really rich.

How do you know this?

Why is it running rich?

You don't want to start tweaking your car until it's working right.

As for mechanic vs. mechanic - Mike Croutcher kicks ass. I bet he'd beat your friend up if you asked him to. 8)

Yeh I live in San Luis too...and I know Mike you can ask him about that kid that totaled a white 95 GST and now Ray owns it he'll know who your talking about...I plan to go to him when I get ready to mod my car (after I get it)...He's been working on DSM's since they first came out so I would definetly trust him...As for a Killer Big 28 causing excessive pressure...uhh well yeh if you try to boost 30-40 psi I'd say that is a bit ;) excessive but just use a boost controller and watch what your doing.

I don't think he is a :dsm: mechaninc either. I seriously doubt you will have any probs with that swap. and it's not a bb turbo.....IMO, the T28 is a very effective way to increase hp if you're not looking into spending big $$$$

No sir it is not a BB turbo...... however we are currantly experimenting with the Garrett Ballistics BB series in this application area.....

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Turbochargers.com to send DSS my turbo =T. The holiday season has really made shipping slow. I've been waiting for a little over a month already (since 11/21/02), and still haven't received a word from them yet. Hope to get it soon. Do I really need to rewire the fuel pump if I'm just running on 12psi/stock boost?
