DSM Stock Replacement.

Historically it's something we haven't offered due to the compromised bends and entry angles when fitting a fabricated manifold between the tightly placed factory flanges. It's not something we gave up on and are happy to prove ourselves wrong, even if it requires getting a little unconventional

This is the 304 prototype being mocked up. Like all of our manifold offerings, all transitions are gently formed and no tight radius or cheated bends are used. It also has some really slick design aspects that allowed it to do so; like a factory-style curved guide vane in the collector that directs flow straight into the turbine housing. Meaning that even though the collector is canted/angled to open up other bends off of the exhaust port, each runner within the collector is gently guided to point directly at the turbine wheel. It's ending up unintentionally near equal length, and with surprisingly easy access to all hardware on top of it.

Most importantly though, it needs to be proven to outperform the factory ported and FP Race manifold. Various testing will be done over the coming weeks and month to verify that it is everything it's meant to be. If it doesn't, it won't be something we offer. We wouldn't have invested the time and development into it if we weren't fairly confident in the design and really looking forward to the results- especially after the dyno results of the Evo 8/9 stock replacement back-to-back.

Please keep us informed, there are some of us still running smaller Turbo's and the FP race manifold and if this one performs better I am pretty sure you will have a captive audience of buyers..:hellyeah:

We will definitely keep everyone posted. Some informal VE change and spool comparisons on our 14b Colt soon (weather permitting) and then the far end of the spectrum results from an FP Zero car- Nathan Crisman of Performance Partout. Nothing says "back-to-back dyno" opportunity like a stock replacement set up :)
 
The weather isn't cooperating enough to even compare spool vs a ported 2g manifold with a 14b (not the whole intent but we wanted to get SOMETHING for now LOL) but here are some photos of the finished prototype :)

We were hoping to re-test with the correct (7cm) gasket but time/weather may not cooperate again so we will post what we've got :)

The main (dyno) test will be with Nathan Crisman at Performance Partout on his FP Zero, but we still wanted get an initial idea how spool and boost threshold would be affected with our prototype DSM stock replacement manifold- especially against a ported factory 2g manifold.
A loss of spool is to be expected, but minimal loss is great; especially if shines during the dyno test against the FP Race manifold. Spool testing was done on our pump gas 14b Colt with a fmic, exhaust, boost controller, and data logged with ECMLink. Our stock replacement manifold is by no means part of the upgrade path for a setup like this, but it does make for a good benchmark for spool trends.

3rd gear:
Ported factory 2g-------- 16.1psi at 3247rpm
MF stock replacement- 16.1psi at 3313rpm (66 rpm slower)

4th gear:
Ported factory 2g-------- 15.0psi at 2809rpm
MF stock replacement- 15.3psi at 2847rpm (38 rpm slower)

Same flat road, 36-38*IAT, 173-183*ECT, within an hour or so.

I still have a FP3065. Right now I have a old DNP manifold that probably has a crack in it or 2? Will this turbo fit the 3065 and clear the block?? also would you guys put a bung in the #1 runner for a egt probe? thanks!!

It shares the same placement as a factory manifold (plus ~1/8" more block clearance for larger bolt on options) so if it normally clears, it will clear ours just fine.

An EGT bung is no problem whatsoever, but the manifold will not be offered until it is tested :)

Great results right out of the gate!

Would you be willing to share the logs from the testing? I'd be curious to see some of the other data associated with the testing.

LOL definitely not something we would look forward to!
We would highly recommend not wrapping a tubular manifold either way though. Stainless steel already has a significantly lower thermal conductivity over much of the operating range than mild steel, doing a nice job as-is of retaining heat inside the manifold rather than to the surrounding air. Wrapping a turbo manifold will retain more heat but also moisture as well as cause it to thermally degrade/corrode (even stainless)- leading to an eventual crack formation.
Ceramic coating is a much better idea and will hold in heat as well, but the surface of the manifold won’t be exposed to the atmosphere at the same time. Although plenty of people have wrapped their manifolds without issue, it doesn’t mask the concerns. Downpipes and dumptubes don’t see nearly as much heat so wrapping isn’t very detrimental, although it will still retain moisture.

We absolutely can, and were hoping to, but it may not give much more useful data past the spool numbers- which may or may not have been affected on the MF side of things as well. Using the same 6cm gasket on the MF manifold looks like it didn't seal (larger 7cm sized opening), along with a strange exhaust sound up front under boost, down 2psi less boost (no other changes), and visible carbon on each corner of the manifold to turbo flange. Following snow, rain, and no useable 7cm gasket on hand left us to take the results as-is.
EDIT: If you are referring to the test with Nate coming up, absolutely. He will be datalogging drive/back pressure, EGT, etc and is fantastic about dissecting the datalogs with video reviews on his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbf1zUNNCO7Vf9-utZqpEVQ

EGT bungs are in the DSM stock replacement prototype and headed to Performance Partout to be tested by Nathan Crisman!
Dyno date planned for the 1st week of January, and will be back-to-back tested on the FP Zero and using the venerable FP Race manifold as the benchmark.
Insanely excited for the data collected, relevant to so many bolt-on setups, and if this design will prove even ourselves wrong in the long-standing consensus that cast is king in the DSM bolt-on manifold world.

Nathan started the car up today after getting the fresh cylinder head on, Kiggly valve springs, and a few other odds and ends!

Also, that means THE DYNO DAY IS SCHEDULED!!
This Friday, January 10th. Two days away :)

The FP manifold is back on the car now for the baseline runs, ~36psi, 40psi, and 44psi and then the new one will be swapped out while still on the dyno for the back-to-back comparison. CAN NOT wait to see what happens and it will be a damn cool experiment with lots of data either way!!

We want to note that there may not be a full recap until the weekend after dissecting all the data. We are all too aware that there is a lot that goes into a test like this, and it doesn't end on the last pull. Still hoping to sneak in an update or two ASAP if possible.

I'm so mad I didn't see this earlier today. I had free time and need to stop by Performance Partout anyway to pick up a few things, but didn't head up because I wasn't in a rush. Now I'm trying to figure out how to clear my schedule tomorrow or Friday to get a peak at this manifold in person. It's only a 35 min drive away :banghead:
