Hi my name is Joey I have a 98 Mitsubishi eclipse I got free. I have never had a dsm before I have wanted one for years. I can work on most cars but a dsm car is new territory for me I would love to learn as much as I can about them while I get my dsm running . Any advice tips tricks and ideas would be more than greatly appreciated. I have had my dsm for about a year now and only managed a few small things to be figured out and still have plenty to go.

Hey dude and welcome! You are venturing into a very fun but also at times very challenging platform. First thing I recommend is take some time to explore the site and the search function. I PROMISE you that everything you want to know is on here somewhere! Start with the FAQs and Newbie forum to get started. Also I always highly recommend going to the manuals section and downloading the FSMs and Electrical Manuals as well. Let us know if you have anything else and have fun!

Welcome!

Are you turbo or non-turbo?

Great platform to work on. Very forgiving, but if you let maintenance get out of hand, itll make you pay for sure.

Please add your vehicle to https://www.dsmtuners.com/dsm-profiles/ with any mods that you have.

One other resource I find handy is vfaq.com. Basically a time capsule of mods and maintenance from back in the dsm heyday. Usually good photos ( especially for timing belt; it’s my go-to).

That said, there’s no substitute for the kind response you get by simply posting questions on this site.

Simply upgrading to a stock turbo setup will be a big improvement, and you might be able to score much of it from a decent junkyard find.
Does AZ have emissions testing on cars that age?
Yes they do I have to get a new engine bay wiring harness though because the OBD2 wasn't working right I had a shop help with it but now the car won't start at all. I didn't believe what I heard on how these cars can be picky and found out the hard way LOL.

That little black angled peace on the left that hooks up to the head was stolen off my car while I was getting cleaner so idk what it is called but I need to find a new one this poor thing needs TLC bad I know before it went down it would run but try to bog out when giving it gas I heard a loude ping when it came home from the shop I haven't tried to start it again since so nothing else brakes on it

Dang! Having some setbacks at this stage.
The reason I asked about emissions is that it may be a big no-no to add a turbo, even if you used all properly functioning parts from an oem turbo car. You should definitely check into the AZ rules on that before taking on that substantial work.
A point on forum use here: make separate posts for distinct issues so that the thread deals with one topic. Otherwise, post on your vehicle build thread and jump around topics as you like.

I know that next year it will be a historical car so I don't know how they do the test then but I know I need to look into it. Out here we have a ton of cars with turbos so I don't think there will be a ton of problems might have a few restrictions though for it to be street legal. Nothing I can't handle out here it's been pretty straight forward with the DMV here.
