It's a regular old GT35 with journal bearings, hence no 'R'. I checked my receipts and this turbo is 4 years old now. I got it new with warranty for $899, and it's rebuildable. Yes, I'm just as impressed! In Garrett terminology the 'R' means ball bearing, no 'R' means journal bearing. The new PTE turbos are also available with either ceramic ball bearings, or with regular journal bearings for a much better price.

nice numbers! that trap speed would be better matched to 650+WHP. are you using NLTS or Anti-lag between gears?

Yes, my trap speed vs race weight (2965) puts me around high 600hp, but that's just calculated HP numbers. Most HP calculators don't say if it's wheel HP or crank HP, so it doesn't mean as much as an actual dyno chart. Or as my favorite HP calculator says, " NOTE! This is just an estimate, and is probably not all that accurate. This program will give you a ballpark estimate of your horsepower. Please don't make the mistake of quoting these numbers as if they meant anything."

My dyno chart is from a Mustang dyno, which tend to read low. I raced the car on the same gas, same tune, same boost level as the dyno runs. After a dyno session that good, I didn't want to change anything.

Yes, I use NLTS and anti-lag between gears and anti-lag to launch. I was building around 15psi on the line.

My best 60' time that day was 1.59. For some reason I can't cut great 60' times on a pro tree. My 60' times were better than last year, but still not as good as a sportsman tree.

A friend took some vids, he hasn't posted them yet.

My driveline is a PTT twin disc with Isuzu slave, EVO3 1st, 3rd and 4th gears with double syncros on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, Sheps 4 spider center diff with Torrington bearing, Quaife front diff. Race wheels are Rota Slipstream 15x7, 40mm offset with BFG Drag Radials 225/50 x 15. The diameter is a little small, it makes the car look funny, but they stick nicely.

Good stuff Dave, amazing what has been under everyones nose this whole time. Who would have thought a 2G heads velocity would produce more power throughout the powerband on a turbo car!? Very good find, and thank you for sharing the info. I think you will be needing that custom tcase soon :)

Thats sweet. I was about to jump on the HX40 bandwagon. Even though I have an Old GT-35 in the Basement. Looks like i'll be runnin that one. With a 2g head.:thumb:

I read his post before, it had an influence on my decision to go with a 2G head. I was also influenced by the info on the motoman website. I also knew that the 2g head couldn't make this power all by itself, it needs to be matched with the right intake manifold and cams that work with high velocity port designs. It looks like I hit the nail on the head!

Congratulations on the most horsepower made with Jackle Speed Density. I swapping over to Jackle this wednesday. This has me so stoked to get the conversion done. My eprom came in the mail monday so ill be learning how to tune come this weekend. Like i said, props to making over 500 hp.

Haha you and me both. ;) Why do you think I've been so adamant about the use of this intake manifold, and me going so far out of my way to obtain it? F**k you, doubters! :)

BTW, I take what experienced people such as Kiggly say directly to the heart. So when something is said like "the 2G head is better overall than the 1G head" (even after all the years of random "knowledgeable" people saying the 1G is obviously better) I won't listen to what any other schmuck has to say. Their opinions are worth less than a dust bunny to me.

I've seen many EVO's make great power on almost identical head/intake mani. They must be doing something right.
 
Dave--- a local DSM shop here in CT was using 2G heads for builds here starting back around 2002 as recommended by the machine shop they used for machine work. Before that is was always swapping a 1G head onto a 2G car. Even the big shops used to swap the 1G head onto the 2G.....be nice to have all those 2g heads that probably got chucked. Like you said, even with the 2G head, the other parts in the combo need to be perfectly matched as well for optimum performance.

Your car is definitely a true DSM sleeper......still with dual tipped exhaust and all.

Congrats again! I'm sure 9 seconds is within reach. I'd toss some slicks on for some test and tune runs......1.3-1.4 60' might = 9.9 ET
 
Thanks Phil! I wonder how difficult it would be to hit a 9 second pass? It gets progressively harder as the car gets faster. I guess I'll have to go to the track and find out!

No I didn't get into the 9's with that setup. I got down to 10.1 @143mph then it was time to change the setup. Looking back all I had to do was get a set of real slicks and I can almost guarantee I would've hit a 9. I can say that because I got a set of slicks last year and they're great! The slicks saved 26 pounds off the car compared to the BFG drag radials.

Right now I'm working on a new setup. Most of the mods are the same except for a nice tubular exh mani, been running E85 for a couple years, got a new version FFtec SMIM to match the 2G head, and the centerpeice is a shiny new PTE 6466! I really like this turbo! It actually spools a little quicker than the GT35, and the GT35 was in a .63 housing while the 6466 has a .82 housing. I'm still ramping up the tune on the new turbo so it's not done yet. I'll post results after the next dyno session. I'm looking forward to hitting the track at the next event 1/13.
 
Dave, what exhaust housing/manifold was on this? What are you going to?

The previous setup was a GT35 with a T3 .63 hotside with a 5 bolt outlet. It was paired with one of the nicer eBay manifolds. The new setup uses an exhaust mani I built using proper weld elbows and nearly equal length runners, ceramic coated. The exhaust housing on the new turbo is a T3 .82 housing with a V band outlet.
