Any 1g guys running the NDD rack? I just got mine and I need outer tie rods. I was wondering what outer tie rods you guys are running.

I did ask NDD but I haven’t heard back from him

Did you figure out which tie rod ends to use?

I just got my rack this week (after paying for the group buy way back in the middle of February) and it came with tie rod ends. However it came with 2 different length ends. I've been trying to contact them to see if that is correct or if I accidentally got one 2G end and one 1G tie rod end.

They also said way back when the group buy was starting that they would send part numbers for the inner and outer tie rods in case I needed replacements, of course nothing came with the rack. Also no mention of any torque values for the inner tie rods after asking multiple times.

They also painted the splines on the steering shaft so I'll have to strip that off before putting it in the car.

The inner tie rods are the same length when the boots are pulled back but they almost look used. Maybe they just assembled them and then disassembled. However nothing looks as nice and shiny as the ones in this youtube vid. Even the inners have marks from being tightened down and grease everywhere.

Mine inners looked like that to. Well I got the outer tie rods, did confirm with him that they are mustang 2 tie rods I installed the rack 2 weeks ago, and yeah they do look like they sent you 2 different outer tie rods well if you need tie rods the part #is moog ES429RL Will confirm once I get home later tonight

Also, I had to take the steering shaft from my 2g since the one on my galant was one solid piece :hmm: Wish I would’ve known it was solid so I could’ve bought one from performance Partout and not struggled like an idiot for an idiot :banghead:ROFL

Thanks for the information! It looks like the small grey one I've got is the correct one. Everything working well with your rack so far? I've got the transmission out of my car so best time to put it in as long as I've got the right parts.

I got a FB message from one of the NDD guys tonight but he's telling me that what I've got is correct and the other guy will let me know which one goes where. I don't understand why they would be different lengths, especially since everything else is the same lengths.

I was lucky enough to have a parts car so I was able to get the steering shaft off of it and send to them. I'm just worried about being able to separate the one in my car with the engine and everything still in the way.

I just wanted to update this post. I finally heard back from NDD and they said that the 1G is supposed to have 2 different size ends. They said the driver's side is supposed to be longer.

Apparently they make this rack fit 15 or so applications, but he confirmed for a 1G that the driver's side is longer.

That's my video you shared above. I can confirm the reason they now sent it with 2 different lengths is because the rack doesn't seem to have the same amount of motion on either side of center. I made mine work but the car does have a little more steering angle in one direction from the other. I can't remember off hand which it is. The different lengths attempt to correct this. I want to say the longer should go on the passenger side.

They told me longer on the drivers side for a 1G, he said he checked his book. Not sure if it's different between the 1G and 2G but hate that there seems to be an issue with them.

I'll be sure to take as many measurements as possible. I guess if it doesn't work I can always try to find a 1g manual rack.

It could be, I very well could be wrong on which way has more travel.

I didn't notice more travel one way than the other when I was measuring. I put it in the center of the travel and then attached the tie rods. I put the tie rod ends on the same amount of turns on each side to get close. Then I lined up the mounting points on the old rack and new rack. I ended up having to turn the drivers side out a few turns to get it to eyeball into the correct spot. If it had been a short one on the drivers side I don't know if there would have been enough threads to consider it safe for that length.

I have to get the steering shaft out of the car to put in the adapter then I'll be able to get the rack installed. I'll post up a replay in the next couple of days once I get that done.

Would you happen to have a part # for the longer tie rod?

I don't have one, the rack came with no paperwork or instructions. There also wasn't a part number on either of the tie rods. If the Mustang II parts do work then this one on Amazon is the extended length tie rod end and looks identical to the one I have, including the color of the cotter pin :

I got mine installed, it turns full lock to lock right now but it took 3 or 4 installs to get everything work. The cover plate on the firewall had to be modified for the u-joint not to hit on my car. The steering shaft adapter had to be seated all the way down on the rack to get it out of the way as well, otherwise I would have had to modify the firewall. Also had to take all of the inserts out of the rubber grommet on the firewall to allow enough play and movement.

Also not sure if the bracket for the passenger side is suppose to fit like it does but everything is tight. The bracket is more triangle shape than semi-circle. Maybe I need a bracket from a manual rack, not sure?

Sweet thanks, no wonder one side is on a couple threads. I wasn’t very convinced. Mine also sits like that when I mounted it, feels like that bushing needs to go more in but it doesn’t
