She's a #'s matching survivor so NEVER. I have one Badass 355 that'll turn 8k and has a 150 shot on it, a Muncie 4 speed AND....a 4:11 posi for it but I can't tear it apart. It's worth WAY too much in its original state and is still fun to drive.
I have DSMs for goin FAST ROFL but thanks so much for the compliment. It was a yr long restore but the motor, trans and dif have never been apart, only serviced. :thumb:
They still work great as if from 1967, when I was a youngster. Lol

I wanted to add these for along time so that I keep both hands on the wheel. Since I'm on a mini-vacation, going nowhere, I went out and wired these up today.

New project to keep the old man busy...........Came from a piece of agricultural equipment but is going to go into a 3rd gen Camaro. It is a small block Chevy, but one I have not ever built.
(Who can tell me what it is???) :D
I had been looking for this for the last 3 years so now I am smiling.
The man I bought it from said he had drained all of the coolant and oil......I found out different when I flipped the block upside down, as you can see the floor dry in picture #4, what a mess. 4 quarts of dark oil all over my shop floor. Oh well, my 5 gallon bucket of floor dry jumped right in to help.
This engine had 5 cylinders with broken top compression rings but no scoring on the walls, in fact it is still a stock bore engine.
I didn't get a picture of it, but this came with an oil pan with a oil return port.....hmmmm, what could I do with that? :hmm: :aha: :nono:
As you see, I am not just a DSM guy, I am a CAR GUY/ENGINE GUY! This stuff makes me happy so I continue to do it! :) :thumb:
I made a "tool" for honing blocks that keeps the hone from slinging ATF (my cutting fluid) all over the shop. I should have made it A LONG TIME AGO!!!!

Nice. I used to have one and sold it a month later. I just flipped it. Those cars are really nice. Not to mention the aftermarket support they have. Since its red, must be one of your favorite colors LOL? I look forward to following this.

Actually my favorite is Blue, but red cars just show up willy nilly and they look good too. All are factory colors. Hell, my red Talon and red Laser were both built the same day, same plant, same color. Wow.
Thanks for following along! :thumb:

My boys and I have a collection of Camaro's to compliment my DSM collection.

Smog pistons with 64cc combustion chambers and 180cc runner heads. Small cam since this isn't my typical SBC build, this is a torque monster. The motor came with a oil pan that had a oil return in it. It wasn't being used but it sure COULD BE.......I have never ever seen a SBC pan with a factory oil return fitting Pat. You bet I am keeping it, just in case we decide to get wild. This is a 3951509 Hi Nickle block, the best you could get and its bores are very nice with just the slightest of piston ring groove at the top, not enough to even worry about. The motor had lots of broken rings and no scoring luckily. One piston will need replaced as the top ring land is way to wide, the ring slops around in it. It was one that was broken, of course. Stay tuned for the updates as I get them done and thanks for following along with me in this "journey" :)

Well, I am using 64cc combustion chambers to offset the dished pistons and hoping for a CR of around 9:1 for 91 octane use. Keep your fingers crossed, I have to get ahold of the head company about drilling steam holes or not or if they will even accept them.

I need to keep the rod speed down on this monster motor so I am limiting it to 6500 RPM's.
RPM's x Stroke /6 = 4000 or less for a normal street engines Piston Speed in ft/sec. Modified engines can and do exceed that but this motor needs to stay under 6500.

That's year one also if I'm thinking correctly. Looks newrly thr same as my dad's he had when i was little.

Yes it is a first year car with optional A/C and PS but no PB. :sneaky:

So, I needed to update the John Deere green BIG SBC build, as my DSM is waiting on the trans shop for an opening for testing.
First thing to notice is.....NO MORE JOHN DEERE GREEN, YAY!!!!
I got 2 slugs installed last night after checking ring gap, have yet to check bearing clearance as it was getting late, but the motor ran when I got it so I will check all of the clearances when I have all of the pistons in.
I also did the first spin of the crank, which you can see HERE and drilled my own steam holes in those nice, new, pretty heads myself for use on the 6.6L (400 CID). Only those engines have the steam holes as the cylinders are siamezed and not enough room between them for an actual water passage. You can see me nervously doing that job HERE. All turned out great so far!
Thanks for following along!

Straight up buffet of engine goodness :D

You got that right Jeff. I had all this money just laying around so I went for the "all you can eat" buffet!!!! :D
I do get A LOT of enjoyment out of building motors. I have not really got my head wrapped around what this one is going to do though...…OMG (although you can see what I call her on the VIN pad).

Ah Hah. Dammit Pat, I have been caught.......
It is a 509 High Nickle content block. About the best you could possibly ask for.
Nice catch and I hope the casting name fits, I think it will "represent" us well. :thumb:
Stay "tuned".....
We ARE telling the locals that happen to ask that it is a 350. ;)
I snatched it up within hours of posting for under $500 and it was running, although poorly with 5 broken top rings.....

These are the specs so far......since I have been had.:shhh::shhh:
Rod clearances haven't been checked since I only have 2 pistons in.
Main clearances are underlined on the main bearing line. I will have ring end gaps included soon. They are in the low .030s and I can't change them so I just record what it is.
Hang tight for more on THOR.
