DAMNIT JAYROLLA!!! ROFL

I caved... Tonight I put in 5 bucks worth of E85 and then topped it off with 91 octane. I'm trying to push the envelope with the S16G. I was getting a little knock @24psi on the full 91 octane @ a 10.8:1 AFR. So, I'm on the way home from work and I needed gas anyway. I pull up to the E85 pump and stare at the nozzle.... Thought to myself, "Should I?" conscience said, "Yep..." So on the way home from the station I did a 2nd gear pull and my AFR is now about 11.5:1 @24psi. I hope to pull a log soon to see if the knock is gone. Hope it is.

BTW, E85 here is $1.14 and 87octane is $1.29.

I had planned to up my boost over the weekend but ended up fixing boost leaks instead. I ordered several t-bolt clamps and had to replace the pcv. Next weekend I should be turning it up. Also it was -4 degrees F this morning when I started the car. It started up well. I made several changes to my cold start settings over the weekend.

Update: After fixing all my boost leaks so the car held 18psi steady I then started pushing a little coolant uder boost. I pulled the head last night and the gasket fire rings were split on all the cylinders. I caught it early so I don't think I will need to get anything machined. I believe this damage was done on pump gas over the last year.

re-surfacing the head most likely. By caught early I mean before I overheated.

Yea I'm pushing coolant too, only under heavy boost. I was going to buy dsmlink but it now looks like I'm going to do the HG. My head is already rebuilt but Im thinking of adding BC280's, valve springs, 2g lifters and some L19 arps. Sucks because I was looking forward to dsmlink.

I was going to use an OEM HG again but thinking of the composite felpro, what you guys think?? Im hoping to run an hx-35 at 35-40psi on stock bottom end and want the HG too hold up.

Composite fel-pro is identical to oem. I run them all the time on various setups and very high boost with 6bolt blocks (wider diameter head studs). You probably will do fine with that for all that an hx35 will throw at you. . . Depending on the hx35 and turbine housing choice. Some combinations can have about 80hp more potential than others. Saying hx35 is like saying t04b; there's different wheels and housings available. It's a frame size, not a turbo name to me.

Oh! I didn't take into consideration the obvious :) . Overheating can = warped head.

How are you prepping the head and block surfaces for the composite HG install? Just clean, dry, check flatness and thats it?

the injector thing is weird, i have made 445hp on 750's, 518hp on 850's and 630hp on 1000's and all cars were on e85. with my car and my freinds car it was a 10% change from 93 to e85. here is a vid of our shop car making 600+hp on 1000's and e85. yea i know its a honda but the 445hp and 518hp cars were dsm's.the teg was reving over 9k

ive been following this thread and it is making me want to jump on e85 sooner

im jsut waiting for this cold as weather to go away.

I will be tuning with AEM becuase i got it for a steal of a deal. jsut need a few sensors.

i cant wait to turn up the boost I am running a e316g at 16PSI and getting boring.

thanks for all the good info guys keep it up

My car is back up and running. I got the head gasket replaced and installed ARP studs. I was a lot more careful to clean the surfaces and check flatness this time, since the last gasket did not stick well because I left oil on the block surface. While it was down I also removed all the AC system and swapped to a manual steering rack from a 1.8 eclipse. I happened onto the steering rack for free so I wanted to try it. I removed these parts to make pulling the head and timing belt faster since I seem to be doing one or the other all the time. Now maybe I can get back to raising boost....

Only a 10% change from 93 to E85 is pretty interesting. :thumb:

Well, add another one to the list. We converted my friends Talon over the weekend to E85. That was the good news, the bad news was that we did compression checks on both cars and he only has 45psi on cylinder 1.

Well good to hear others are converting over. I just ordered up ECUlink V3 and it should be here soon. Also getting the eprom conversion. After this is installed and tuned I'm going to the dyno. After that the hx40 is going to be going on. 30psi on the stock longblock is going to be fun. Hope she holds up.

Sounds good, I picked up a 2.4 block so I am going to try a high compression setup on stock 2.4 pistons with e85.

My buddy ran 11's on a stock expo 2.4L block that he built in one night. It did fail though that first night at the drags. Junk yard motor with over 200 compression results.

Yeah, I will keep real low boost on this one and I'm not looking for 11's. Just fun commuter car.

Have you had a chance to run your car at a track or put it on the dyno to see what kind of numbers or results you are getting from your efforts? That would be interesting.

Not yet, but I will be this summer as long as I dont loose my license. Lets just say I got a bad ticket and learned my lesson. Anyways I may only beable to hit the dyno since I will most likely have a restricted license.

I just installed link late yesterday and having lots of issues with global and deadtime settings. I cant get the car to lean out no madder how much global I take out. I started her up this morning and got a CEL so maybe that will steer me in the right direction.
