I spent $7500 for my car and $1600 bucks on parts in just over 4 months and havent bought any more parts since then and havent driven it since either. I know as soon as I get it out in 2 weeks hopefully Im going to buy another $1600 in parts atleast seeming I need a clutch and a front mount. But hey im not going to complain Its my hobbie and I dont have anything elsa to spend it on.

I ant complaning I just didnt think it would be that much .

This is my parts list on the car. Some of the things have been removed when I turbo'd the car like exhaust manifold and things like that that are not used any more. Last I checked I was in the low-mid $20,000 range. I am sure there are some things not listed. Next is to rebuild the engine.

Car costs are better measured as $/mile cost of ownership, all costs included.

If you can get down to $0.45/mile you have a low cost car. The trick is to drive a lot of miles.
My Talon cost just over $20K new in 1997 and mods since then are also just over $20K But with 187,000 miles it has been a low cost car including gas, tires, insurance, etc.

My latest stroker project was extensive but still cost less than three years depreciation on an Audi TT. And Audi TT’s should be happy that I don’t street race.

Soooo, the next time your wife complains about the cost of your DSM mods, just offer to take her for a drive to average the cost down. Yeah that will work. ;)

I JUST hit the $4500 mark but I am on a fully built 2.3 and supporting mods. Gotta love having connections.

Im at the 2k mark in spending on the DSM, but I do get everything cheap and/or used LOL. The worst part is i've owned the car for 4 years.

Thats over 15k and there are a lot of things im sure I didnt mention..

I hate putting that into perspective..but it's my hobby and I can't do without it.

best advice don't keep track of what you spent it is a hobby and if your wife or significant other finds out your a dead man:thumb:

T is for turbo, I spent about the same on my car so far, and its still 99% stock and still have engine work, and cosmetic touch ups left.. I'll spend $16K before I get to adding power. (yeah I didn't get the best deal, but I don't regret a dime spent to have my dream car now)

Well I just figured out what I have spent on my Talon since I got it less than 2 weeks ago.

2 Brand New Low Profile Tires - $200
Radiator Coolant - $13
Oil + Oil Filter - $22
Power Steering Belt - $15
Alternator Belt - $15
Idler Pulley - $20
Spark Plugs + Plug Wires - $41
Shop Work Free - $60.02

Total = $386.02

A lot more to come though in the coming weeks...

I have a specific folder I keep the receipts from everything I buy for my car. I should take a picture of it. It's thick.

Do you have a separate folder just for all the different sets of rims you buy. You should be about due for another. Been a couple months.

I'm a little over $5,000 in just mods, another $3,600 for the car. And that's not including insurance or other maintenance, oil/fluids or gas. And I'm still in high school, stuff adds up quick.

I've kept track of mine over the past 6 months since I started my 6 bolt project. Check this shit out:

Car (98 GSX) $6,500.00

Tax and Registration $203.00

Smog $200.00

Engine (6-bolt) $400.00

Exhaust W/ Silencer (Apexi N-1) $207.00

EPROM ECU $250.00

1G BOV $20.00

Wideband O2 Sensor $148.00

Turbo Timer $64.50

Cherry Picker W/ Balancer $165.00

Extreme PSI: Exhaust Mani, Wastegate Flange, Lifters, & Engine Gasket Set $731.45

MAP: Turbo, Valves, Valve Guides, Headstuds, Main Studs, Freeze Plugs, Flywheel, Motor Mount Inserts, Spark Plug Wires, Wastegate, Injectors, Valvelocks, Spark Plugs, Cam Gears, Valvesprings & Retainers $2,901.31

Timing Belt Kit W/ Water Pump $294.92

Synapse Blow Off Valve $184.99

FFWD: Cams, Stroker Kit, Exhaust Mani Stud Kit, Hi-Flow Fuel System, oil filter housing, BS Elim Kit, Exhaust & Turbo Gasket, Spal Fan, Valveseals $3,277.00

Machine Work $2,500.00

Transmission $3,000.00

Radiator Hose, Couplers, Oil Pressure Gauge, Air Filter $190.00

Rear Hatch Supports $56.04

CAS $48.00

Visor Clips & Floor Mats $32.00

Boost, EGT, Oil Pressure Gauges, OEM MLS Headgasket, Rad. Cap, 4.3 Clutch, Clutch Line, Valve Locks, Boost Controller, Vband Clamp and Flywheel $1,085.74

Total: $22,458.95
Then add tools, gas, insurance, oil changes, etc and it gets crazy.

And I still need DSMLink, blow thru setup, Intake mani, Big Break Kit, Oil pump, Alarm System, New Rear Diff, RRE 2Gina1G wire harness, and a custom DP along with random parts that I havent thought of yet. Then once it gets running its on to exterior mods! :thumb:
