Just changed the oil as part of a tuneup I'm doing, amongst other things to get the car ready for an out of province inspection. To my dismay there seems to be confetti in the old oil... but when the engine ran I heard nothing that sounded like rod knock? The turbo is whining pretty bad and needs to be replaced, so could bearing shavings from it be showing up in the oil? Or maybe I'm just saying that so I don't have to tell myself that I need to pull the engine LOL. Regardless I'm most likely going to be pulling my oil pan to check out what's in it.

Better pic of the oil. There’s no big slivers and the metal is magnetic... any ideas?

Best bet would to first pop off your intake, check for excessive shaft play. Could be an indication of bearing failure and spalling which could put metal into the oil. Best bet though would to be drop the oil pan and look to see if there is any obvious wear on the rotating components.

There's definitely shaft play in the turbo, hopefully soon it'll get warmer then I'll likely take the pan off to check

Decided to take the turbo off and get everything ready for a rebuilt one soon, took an hourish to get it all off. Also decided to give my valve cover a new coat of paint, it didn’t come out perfect but it’s not too bad. Think I might paint some other parts just to spice up the engine bay while I’m waiting for parts. I also managed to pick up some vintage Bosch lights for $20 from a milsurp store, so I’ll install those as well if I feel like it
