i am planning on getting the Quaife Front LSD this winter i also wanted the center diff but the quaife is only offered for 93+dsms. whats the difference in center differentials? can i swap something to use this diff? should i just get the kaaz center differential? or should i just do like almost dsmer out there (shep included) and weld the center differential?

i am planning on driving the car daily so i was really leaning away from the weld option.

i have heard nothing but positive facts/info about quaife's lsds this is why i open to the option of swapping whatever necessary to use both front and center quaifes.

i also alreaddy have the lsd 4 bolt rear

plans for car are 450+awhp, autox and track racing, and daily driving

thanx in advance for all the info/help

The center diffs changed after 5/91, according to caps. The difference is the gear on the outer case is a slightly different pitch. Very difficult to see by just eyeballing it.

In order to use a 92+ center diff in a earlier transmission you'd have to swap the intermediate shaft at a minimum as the intermediate shaft meshes with the center diff. I don't know what else you would have to swap, though. Hope this helps.

not only a 92+ intermediate shaft has to be swapped in, but the 92+ 4th gear has to be swapped in as well. I'm not sure 90/91 hub slider will work with 92+ 4th. 3 90/91 3rd and 4th gear have bigger outer diamter and inner diameter.

thanx guys good need to know info...keep it coming

do you guys think it would be better to

a. do as many dsmers do and weld it?

b. be original/expensive and swap in a 93+ tranny & xcase, just to use the use the quaife?

c. or should i get a different brand center lsd made for my year?....i think kaaz makes one, is it any good?

While the Quaife front diff is a great upgrade, the Quaife center diff is not so good due to a mismatch of tolerances between the gear on the diff and third gear in the tranny. There have been plenty of reports of blown trannies due to gear breakage on the Quaife center diff.

Also DO NOT combine a welded center diff with a Quaife front diff unless you like having your whole drivetrain bind up. Since the Quaife is a torque sensing diff, the welded center diff will transfer torque to the front diff whenever the steering wheel is turned slightly, and the front Quaife will respond to this torque by locking the front wheels together. Trust me, I know because I tried it. I could feel the front Quaife locking and releasing even while taking gradual turns on the freeway. When I had to pull into a parking space both the outside front wheel and inside rear wheel would skip and drag. Everything got better as soon as I replaced the welded center diff with a Shep made 4 spider center diff.

I highly recomend a 4 spider center diff with a front Quaife.

Sshhh! Don't say the 'W' word. :) If I had the 'W' title I might have to answer an endless stream of PM's filled with unpunctuated run on sentances. I just wish I had a sig that simply said,"I know stuff"
