Some of you have been following my build blog on my 97 GSX shell. I bought the shell from a friend who bought it from the last registered owner with title in Aurora Illinois. My friend did not register the shell as it is just that a shell. Not driveable. No motor no tranny. It's a project car and went into his storage. He bought a 97 supercharged corvette and sold me the 97 GSX shell. He dropped it off here and I promptly put it into my storage. I have spent the better part of the year working on it. I didn't register it as it wasn't driveable. The DMV doesn't have a problem with me not registering it since it wasn't on the road.
Ok long story short I had been expecting to get the GSX running last month and put the title into the cargo pocket of my pants. It actually started 6 days later and then to my horror I found out I sent the title thru the wash. It's nothing but paper pulp. The WI DMV was no help.
I did not know the original registered owner in Illinois. My buddy did not save his name or telephone number. His screen name here on tuners is turbodsmawd420. He lives in Aurora Illinois. DMV is saying basically the only way to get this thing registered in WI is to have him re title it in Illinois and then send me the new title. I don't know his name. If anyone on here knows him personally I really need to get a hold of him.

You can generally do a title bond, and then file for an abandoned vehicle title. In alabama it takes several weeks to file for an abandoned vehicle title as you have to send a notice to the address of the last registered owner via certified mail. Then wait a month. Then you can sell it. Complicated process really.

well... And so it sits. Not because of the difficulties with the title but because I damaged a nerve in my neck and my left arm isn't functioning all that well now. I had blown out a disc in my neck back at the end of 08 which lost me the use of my left arm until the vertabrae were fused the spring of 09. I got full functionality back. I was thinking this was something new. A new injury but after 5 MRIs and a couple catscans and whole plethora of xrays.... it's not. Which means no surgical solution. somewhere along the line since the repair I reinjured the nerve and it's got to heal on it's own. That's a process that has been described to me my neurosurgeon as taking a couple months to a couple years depending. Or it may not heal at all. So the GSX sits. In the build of it I deleted the power steering so as it sits I can't drive it. Sucks to say the least. I have made improvements in the 9 weeks since the injury so I remain positive. The thing that sucks is I didn't injure myself per se; just woke up feeling like I literally had a knife stuck in my back. I really expected to reach up and find a knife sticking out of my back just between left shoulder blade and spine. No knife. Maybe an ex got a hold of a voodoo doll?

Just read this entire story here and just wanted to say I wish you the best of luck! You've been through a lot with this car, but the storm will eventually pass and everything will turn out good, if not better than expected.

Take it easy bud.

Yea unfortunately the only way your going to be able to get this straightened out is to contact this person and attempt to get a new title for it. Take it from someone that lives in IL, your best bet is to try to look him up on facebook, google if you know his name. Otherwise you might be doing a part out on the car, or trying to get a new vin ;-)

Here in texas when something like that happens you can go to the dmv and pay $5 and the dmv gives you all the info so you can contact the last owner.

Thanks Cinder. Actually I have his name and phone number now. Of course I know the town we picked it up in. He's never picked up or returned my call. I'm skipping it altogether. Doing the lost abandoned vehicle route. I could send the guy above mt VIN number but I'm afraid it'll turn up that a vehicle matching that VIN is officially on my possession and paperwork is pending
