Looking for some input on a '96 TSi AWD A/T on ebay

I've wanted a 2g TSi ever since I got my 95 ESi, and I happened to find this one on ebay earlier. Everything is exactly what I want, except for it's an AUTOMATIC!!! I've wanted one that is mostly stock so I can do all the work myself, so this one would be perfect. I just can't get over the fact that it's an automatic. I'm sure I could live with it, I'm only 19 so I have plenty of time to get my 5 speed. Also, it seems like a damn good price for the car though and it appears to be really clean. Do deals like this happen often enough that I might be able to find a 5 speed this nice for this cheap in my area anytime soon, or do you think I should buy this thing up? I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks

Just wait for a 5-spd. I've driven both and the 5-spd is night and day. Other than that it does look clean though.

it does seem like a good deal, but there's also another 3 days or so in the auction and the price could go up. as a general rule of thumb, i try to stay away from buying cars on ebay. if you do decide to buy the car, make sure you look at it personally. If you do, read this:

There are a bunch of other threads on here that give you information on what to look for when buying a used DSM.

Also, keep looking. Talon's are are and hard to find stock, but it happens if you are patient. My friend found a 97 tsi FWD 100% stock with around 80k on the clock for $5k. I recently picked up a 95 tsi AWD that has MINOR mods for $3600. Check out forums such as:

Granted you are in the PA area I believe, but check out the classified sections on those forums, or even here on DSMtuner.com for people selling their used DSMs. If you are going to spend your money, make sure it's exactly what you want!

*EDIT* Just realized you are from OH, not PA. Check for local DSM forums and go through the classifieds.

Putting a high stall TC on the auto will also make a night and day difference. There is nothing wrong with an auto; change your TC and get a IPT TC, and you'll be seeing those 5 speeds on your tail. But I would still prefer a 5 spd awd. If you can get it a cheap price, go for it. I have a 5 spd awd, and an auto fwd (with a IPT TC)

I say go for it if you have the money. If you do find a 5 speed one day, just sell this one and you're good to go. I personally hate auto's, but the car is extremely clean; even i would consider buying it. Clean DSM's are hard find these days.

Wait until you can get what you really want. I mean, I wanted a 5 speed, but I got an automatic. I was pissed about it for months. Then I did some auto transmission mods, and now I love it. It's all up to you.

Thanks to everybody who replied. I decided that I might as well just wait to find a 5speed one, because I've wanted one for a long time now. If I'm going to be throwing 3-5 grand at a car, I should just buy what I want right? I hope there's a deal like this sometime in the future and that I won't regret skipping over this one, but until then I'll just keep looking around for that perfect deal. Who knows, maybe I'll find exactly what I want tomorrow sitting in some random yard or used car lot. Again, thank you to everybody who took their time replying to this.

Edit: TuRBoTaLooN I guess you were right. I just checked the price of the car and it's already gone up $1,200 since the last time I checked it. Gotta love ebay...
