Is it illegal to mod your car to make it fast? Let's say your exhauast is within legal lodness, and your window tint is legal, and no rice looking stuff, a fairly stock appearence, but you're making 300 HP, is it illegal? Also assuming you kept your emissions crap if needed (you can also pass all saefty inspections, blah blah), I mean is just making it fast illegal? In any states?

Where I live as long as the lights are not shining in your face its fine to have them but most cops around here will pull you over for anything like the other day i got pulled over because one of two of my third brake light was out in my sidekick.

Cop pulled me over this past year for H.I.Ds being "blue" I have 8ks so they are tinted blue but not that bad. He was just being a dick because of my car. He continued to tell me alot of stuff was illegal on the car, my steering wheel (13" def not illegal), mini mirrors (which were ), etc. He gave me a citation for the HIDs (120$) and not wearing a seatbelt. I fought it in court, the judge said they looked white because it was daytime out but the cops insisted and she "changed her mind" They told me to change the lights or I'd be cited many more times, well I left them in the rest of the summer and drove by tons of cops and did not get pulled over again...go figure

hey man ya it is illegal basiclly ive never heard anyone getting a ticket for it but all the cop has to say is if it didnt come stock of the car then its illegal. and yes the cop was being a dick but they all are ive never seen a cop pull over a mustang or z06 for the gauges or hid lights so whats up with that?

Yeah that is where I grew up. I have never been pulled over in Tri-Cities in the blue 1g. But I don't live there, I just go to visit my family. I have been pulled over twice in the black 1.8 in Kennewick. Once for speeding, and once the cop thought I hade sped up because I saw him, even though I was just going over the cable bridge from Pasco to Kennewick. Apparently if you accelrate to go up hill, they assume you are running from them.

If they are not careful, they are going to kill an entrie industry; it can't be good for the economy if we all stop buying auto parts and turbos, now can it?

Well if we all have to buy new cars it might be. I will take the bus in defiance!

Cops are ridiculous here in TX. I was pulled over in a previous 2g eclipse of mine and got ticketed for front clear corners (even though the bulbs were orange ), exhaust ( had a catback AND legit carb number ), and defective equipment ( tire tread too low, they were nitto drag radials about a month old ). Everything was pretty much legal and he was on a power trip. I got all of them dismissed. To answer your question, the legality of your gauges/mods depends on local laws. Although they may not be totally illegal, the general concensus here is correct. It is probable cause for them to mess with you because in their opinion, your car is not "the normal or usual".

I live in Fort Worth, its not bad at all. I've only been harrassed by the cops a couple of times. Once for no plates, and the other time they pulled me and my 3year old daughter out of the car to search for nitrous. Good to hear you got them dismissed though. Don't really want to support them getting new equipment or something.

neon lights are illegal to have .. they are illegal to be showing. like the pipe that it comes in can't be seen or its illegal. so when u put on neons they have to be high up there so only the light will show on the ground

wow 60 dollars you are lucky, a seatbelt ticket here is 250 and i am pretty sure they just bumped it up again.

60? 250? Try 10 here =P, Its all just a way for the governement to make some more money and rip off the average American, but lets not get into politics hah, that cops a dick but alot of them are like that. What can you do?

wow man i would never live in a state where I have to be afraid of popping my hood. I guess the cops that harass people for having nicely modified fast cars (not speeding) are just people who dreamed of having a fast car as a kid but never got to it because their parents took their money to pay trailer property taxes. But thats just my opinion.

I got one last week for $674.00 for moving our DISPLAY Rally car from the front of the shop to the rear.

No front plate, no proof of insurance.

didn't bother to write me up for the full stage rally tire I had on.

keep a digital camera with you at all times and every time a cop pulls you over say sir hold on a sek put it out and start recording him no joke it will piss him off but if your car is legal there's nothing he can do freedom of the press and what not. if you have don't something illegal don't try this

Actually, a normal civilian has no freedom of the press. There are special credentials that press have.

Also, if you try that and a cop tells you to put the camera away, you really are going to want to... Because they CAN and WILL arrest you.

I'm assuming you were on private property, I advise to get a lawyer... That should be a fairly easy fine to get out of.

best one i got is, i was pulled over for is my car being black with the registration still saying red. i know it is finable but the whole point of it was the cop flew up behind me from 3 car lenghts away (meaning he was speeding to catch me with no lights on) then pulled me over on a blind hill. looked in the window and said the car isnt red anymore isnt it. i proceeded to explain that it just rolled out of paint and the DMV isnt open on sundays. he took mine and my GF license and ran them. came back and then said i can call the DMV to change the color on the regi. i asked when i went in to the DMV on monday and the woman said the cop was lying thru his teeth when he said that.... and all this s*** about distracted driving brings me to my point of non of this would have happened if the cop wasnt running my plates as i drove which i am pretty sure could fall under driving while destracted and with undo car and attention. i got off with a warning but still pisses me off to this day that he waisted his time pulling me over when there are other people on the road speeding, driving drunk and all other things.

Goyabean! yes that would be easier as i looked into that but i took the dimensions and 3 gauges would be too much to fit into that little area under the receiver. it was just large enough for 2..Unless you dont have a radio then that idea for the 3 gauges would work.
