Hey guys. Well, my 92 GSX started to only blow warm air when I turn on the heater, about 6 months ago. I've ignored for now but I wanted to see if I could get it fixed. I'm only getting warm air, I can't get hot air. Besdies the heater core being bad, what could it be? Thanks!

I recently replaced the thermostat, so I know it's not that. The temp gauge is reading at normal running temperature, just below the middle mark. I also replaced the water pump, so I know it's not that. The radiator is good too. Any ideas? Anyone know exactly what's involved, part-wise, to create hot air in our 1G's?

i hate to say this.....but did you check your coolant, or do you have a leak.....that will definately cause this. sorry if i insult your intellegence, just want to make sure.

No insult taken whatsoever. Yes, I did flush the coolant and everything that respect is a-okay.

I had a similar problem. I powerflushed my coolant system 2 times before I got the heater core unclogged enough to operate correctly. If you have used any coolant stop leak before (I see you replaced your waterpump) this stuff clogs the heater core and stops it from functioning.

I know that none of the "basic things to check" are causing this problem. Before I have to rip apart the whole dash to get way back there to access the heater core, assuming that that's the problem, I'd like to hear from people who have had this warm-heat-only problem before. Are there any other, more technical, reasons why I wouldn't get hot air?

Well if there was a big hole in your ducting, allowing cold air into your system, that would do it.

Seriously, it sounds like a heater core problem, you could try powerflushing it before you rip the thing apart, that might help....or you could just get a new one and open up the dash (not fun) and get yourself rollin again.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The heater vent is working properly. Can you explain?

DSMs use a door on the heater box, not a valve on the water hose- the core's always hot, once the engine's warmed up. If your cable has slipped, or a part has bent, you may not open the door all the way to bring the heat into the passenger compartment.

Would a bad heater relay be causing this problem? Is there way to know if it's a the heater relay, not the heater core?

I have seen this problem 1st hand. The problem is a bad heater core. It is restricted. Your vehicle has no heater valve that restricts access to the core either. At this point, unfortunately their is no magic flush to rejuvenate the heater core. replacement is iminent and needed. This process is wuite labor intensive. A mitsu. dealer would want $960.00 for this type of a job. Therefore if money is an issue, as it is to most, then break out the shop manual and step by step it. Good luck...
