Brief back story on how I stumble across the car since this really started back in 2010. I was deployed in Afghanistan OEF X and wanted to get back into the DSM scene I owned 3 DSM's prior to this dating back to 2005. It was December 2010 and I started my search mind you I was stationed in Italy so few and far between to find a GSX U.S spec. Found a bone stock 91 GSX with 61,000 miles on it in Genova, Italy. Took the 3 hour trip on a train and bought the car for $4200. The owner was from Rome, Italy and bought the car from the U.S and had it imported in 1991.

It had a few dings on the body but nothing serious ( still haven't done any body work to it). Started out with basic mods and maintenance FP manifold, EVOIII 16G, Megan Exhaust, SAFC2 and MAFT-T.

Then the performance bug hit me a few months later and I started ripping the car apart. Basics like removing the A.C stuff, realized I wanted to tune the car myself so I bought V3 link for more control went to speed density and put some 272 cams in it and 650cc injectors. Had a cheap ebay intercooler on it for a little while and just had fun with it for the next year.

I will continue to upload the photos I have throughout the years as I built it up to where it is today. The goal for 2018 is to have the quickest Automatic HX40 powered DSM. From what I have gathered Beans Benes ran a 9.5@145 with his auto HX40 at around 2700LBS. Catching Dave Ruby's 8 second passes is a very tall order and I honestly don't see anyone touching it.

Drag racing is almost non-existent in Italy but I did come across something very close to it. Here are a few pics of it and a short video of the car running. You can see how bad the stock suspension was, looking back I can only laugh. Ended up blowing the 20 year old radiator hose!525040[/ATTACH]

Fast forward to 2012 and another trip to Afghanistan, while staying busy with missions you have a lot of time to think. This is where I went into buying a ton of parts over 9 months for the car. A lot of these parts were used and are still on the car. I got entire bushing kit for the car, STM T3 manifold, 58mm HX40, bep .70 housing, valves, pistons, bearings, rods, sway bars, brakes, 4 bolt rear end, 150 amp alternator from ostar along with a overflow reservoir, FP intake, paul volks cross member, EVO 8 rims and some BFG tires, Devilsown meth injection kit, FIC fuel rail, new radiator and a bunch of other stuff. My wife absolutely hated me and you will see why in the pics!

Drove the car with the new set-up for a year and decided to make a few more changes. Upgraded some of the interior with a momo italia steering wheel, and shift knob. Also bought a set of OMP racing seats and a PTT twin disc which I must say sucked for driving in city traffic.

Now on to 2014-
Why was your wife pissed? She wanted a twin scroll setup instead of single? Can't blame the woman.
LOL, she hated me nagging her that she had to go to the post office every week. Some of that stuff was pretty heavy and big boxes. I was more pissed at myself for not going twin scroll.

Now we move on to 2014 and these were the final changes made to the car until I shipped it back to the U.S in 2015. Almost 8 years served overseas I was happy to be coming back to the homeland. Throughout this process I ditched the JMF SMIM that cracked about 5 times everywhere and put a Magnus V3 on it and installed a kiggly hla. Swapped to the first KTS version holset which the compressor wheel measured 66/84/86.6 and the 67/76 12 blade turbine wheel. Bought some 1350's off of Tim Zimmer, new valve cover, Calans Catch can which to this day is still on my car and I love it. Wrapped the manifold and wastegate dump, gasket matched the BEP housing, swapped in kelford 272 cams from the HKS's. Sold my punishment racing FMIC and went with a 4 inch race ETS core and made new i.c piping and made my own coil on plug Relocated the battery to the rear of the car and got a hold of a 3" DSS driveshaft and slapped that on as well. I have 2 videos one was racing the supra from a roll but bench racing is not allowed so I won't post that one but I did take the W and the other is just a 1-4 pull. The biggest thing I miss about Europe was the highways did not have speed limits in some areas.

Now we are at August 2015 finally, I'm sure I have tons more pictures but playing catch up after 7 years of building is a tall order. Finally get stationed at Fort Bragg and we have a 1/4 mile drag strip I couldn't begin to tell you how stoked I was about this. I do have one video of a EVO whooping my ass is an under statement at the time. We are now friends and running neck and neck on the quest for deep 9's. First trip to the track I broke the 1-2 shift fork, second time at the track sheared the passenger rear axle inside the rear diff I can't find the video of my 12.1 pass but that was the best I did before the engine decided to FUBAR itself. My guess is that the valves were floating due to improper seat pressures and one finally decided to say F you and the head of the valve literally snapped off.

The real heart break

Now my wheels are turning as to what I wanted to do with the car. Talked to a good friend of mine and he hinted at the idea of going auto. Then talked to another good friend and got a game plan together. He is now a technician at English Racing and advised me on which parts will work for my goal and what wouldn't. I started selling parts from my recent build that were still good to fund my new build. I had to wait a few months for ExtremePSI's black friday deal before I bought anything. I have bought a ton of parts from extreme psi and jnztuning over the years as they are supporting vendors and always have good deals on parts.

I decided it was time to try a high compression motor so I went with some wiseco 10:1 H.D pistons, manley rods, ferrera valves and ended up keeping my Kelford 272s. Sold my supertech dual valve spings for some kiggly race springs for peace of mind. Picked up a used Zex Nitrous kit that wasn't installed until earlier of this year and thought it was a good time to switch to E85 for the new power goals so I picked up DSMlink flex fuel harness and sourced a GM flex fuel sensor.

I also ditched the 1G head for a 2G after talking to faster guys who street drive there cars as well it seemed like a good option. The decision was made and I sold my manual set-up and picked up a complete 1G auto swap to include the wiring harness and TCU.

Now we are in March 2016 time frame and it was time for the machine work to be done. I picked up a virgin 6 bolt block locally because my block had heavy damage in cylinder #3 from the valve mishap. After calling around the entire state of North Carolina and asking questions about how they conduct business I did not get the warm and fuzzy. So what now do you ask, well after talking with Curt Brown I didn't have to look anymore and made my decision. I sent him my head to put that C.B magic on it for perfection and also sent him my block with parts for the machine work and assembly.

Normally I would have tackled the full assembly but with my increased hours at work and kids I said the hell with it and let the legend handle it. He far exceeded my expectations but I honestly shouldn't have expected anything less than perfection. I thought I had more photos of the ports but they must have been lost when my last phone broke.

I should also note that since I went to the 2G head I sold the magnus and bought a EVOIII intake manifold and had Curt port that as well.

Now that I had assembled the motor it was time for the fun part. Swapping the manual interior harness and engine harness. I wanted the auto headlamp with the temp warning ect. so it was the only option as well as keeping the tcu for d.d capability. During this process I deleted wires no longer used such as auto seat belt wires, rear speaker wires, rear antenna came out, pulled the rest of the a.c stuff out since I had to remove the dash and also the last of the sound deadining on the firewall.

After the wiring was finished with deletions it was time to put the interior back together.

Finally in the car after almost 8 months of the engine failure!

When I bought the auto setup it came with a Sinister converter wasn't exactly sure which option it was but quickly found out. It was extremely loose and that is saying it nicely. I emailed Mike at Sinister speed and found out it was one of the first 8" converters while trying to find the correct internal configurations for us DSM guys. We agreed I would send it in and he would tighten it up so I could get the spoolinator to better suit my setup. Ran at the track a few times clicked a few 12's but the converter was built for 1/8 mile not 1/4 so it was useless for me. I was literally hitting 8300 RPM in 3rd gear to give my auto guys an idea how it was. I felt something else was wrong so I pulled the transmission for inspection.

Houston we have a problem, I don't even know how the hell this shaft bent like it did.

1.jpg

Had to find a spare transmission because this is not a part you can just order.

2.jpg

In July I bought a house so the racing went on standby.

So now that I am all settled in at the new house it was time to build myself a race car garage. I know it's not a DSM but it is the car's new home. I even added a touch of DSM when I painted it.

1.jpg

2.jpg

3.jpg

4.jpg

I thought it was a nice touch DSMFTW

8.jpg

Now that the garage is up and organized it was time to pull the trans back out and address a few things for the 2017 season
5.jpg

During that time I picked up some 15x8 Rota slipstreams with 26" hoosiers and a 55 Gallon drum of some E98
7.jpg

9.jpg

So now that I have the transmission ripped back out it was time to send the converter off to Sinister Speed and get re-stalled and upgraded. After all of these years buying parts and selling I always put insurance on items. This time my dumb ass didn't do that and the one time I don't USPS lost my converter so there I was shit out of luck. The original plan was to buy a C2 spoolinator converter and now that I did not have one it was the perfect time to buy it.

Got my new converter in the 10 days as advertised but there was one big problem when I popped the cap off, the thrust bushing was broken during shipment.
6.jpg

Got a hold of Mike and found out that the thrust bushing from the factory was plastic and he just started upgrading them in summer 2016 to torrington bearings. Sent it back to him so they could cut it back open and upgrade it some more. Throughout the entire process Mike was quick to email back and answer all my questions so he gets my thumbs up for customer service and making a bad ass converter for us 1G guys.

Ended up meeting a local DSM guy who has been in the game since the 90's turns out he lived 10 minutes from my house and has the 11th quickest Auto DSM in the world he is the member ohsofast122 on this forum. He ended up going with a 2G transmission so I bought his 1G transmission rebuilt with a ALTO red eagle rebuild kit, Metro trans valve body and a welded center differential. Searching through some classifieds online I found a set of gears that were shot peened and REM finished by TRE so I bought them. This exact transmission set-up has supported cars in the 8 Second range so I found it to be a good budget friendly build for the winter. That was all I did to the car from December 2016 to February 2017.

Look at that we finally made it to 2017 talk about a lot of catching up and searching for photos going on 10 hours now. First time at the track with the new changes. Found out very quick I needed to work on the stall tuning. This was in March still ran a 11.9 first time out low boost 27 P.S.I.

Now we are at April 2nd IFO Rockingham my first real racing event competing at. Running a full slick I had to run the forced induction pro class. Much to my surprise 2 fast DSM's were also running the class, Charly Franks and Mike Wohler. I was not the quickest or fastest but they ran into some technical troubles and could not finish the race so I took the win. This was pure luck but I did run a new p.b of 10.91@136.

Fast forward to July haven't ran since IFO in April. Bought some pushloc fittings to clean up the bay a little bit, installed a 50 dry shot to stall the car up on the launch only, deleted the power steering and miata modded the steering rack to make room for the side exit exhaust I fabbed up. I also installed a Kiggly 2 tooth trigger and put some some fresh boots on my cv's.
