knocking nosie when above 1500rpms

i have a 95' tsi and i have this nasty knocking type of noise when my car reaches 1500rpms and gets worse the higher the rpms...if i hold the throttle its knocking i let off its not there. it dosen't matter what rpms its at as long as its above 1500 it knocks like crazy, its pretty load to. i haven't driven since it happened. i can not figure what it is. im thinking maybe a rod? its not lifters, any guess' are welcome. i relize its pretty hard to figure it out when you guys can't hear it but i thought maybe you could give me some ideas to look into.

rod bearings. take off one spark plug wire at a time. then rev the motor. if the knock goes away, it is the bearings for that cylinder.

Thanks for the help, I tryed that out and it worked. So i am going to getting new bearings tomorrow.

if it's rod bearings you may need a rebuild... bc you are beating up the rods and crank... 6 bolt time

I did the 6 bolt when my bearings went. I heard you can get oversized bearings, and cut the crank. Take the crank to get checked out. 6 bolt is the way to go, though.

well i changed plans, looks like im going 6 bolt things were more messed up then i had thought at frist. now i just need some more cash.

get a 6 bolt on trader used about 400 you'll be good to go.. the short block that is
