Hey guys,
I just smogged the car and swapped my modified exhaust back on. I was testing the exhaust for leaks, etc, when i slowed down to a stop light and heard a loud ticking/knock sound coming from my engine.
It makes the noise at idle, and obviously the faster i go, the faster it makes the noise. The weird thing is, that in 1st and 3rd and 4th, the noise isn't as fast or noticeable as it is when in 2nd gear.
When i put it in 2nd, the noise is like 3x as fast and twice as loud.
I was right around the corner from the mitsu dealer, so i just drove it in the parking lot (thinking i shouldnt be driving it!) and one of the technicians came over to take a listen, and they think its a blown engine.
Something is knocking like crazy, and its pretty noticeable. The noise is consistent, increases with speed, and is most noticeable in 2nd gear.
What do you guys think???
(I did a compression test last year which resulted in 180 180 155 180)
The dealer is gonna drop the oil pan for me to take a peek.
Any knowledge i can fire back against the dealership with is definitely appreciated and welcome!
Thanks!
*UPDATE*
Mitsu dealer says its not my engine, and that its my transmission.
I'm not sure i believe this, BUT that would explain why 2nd gear the noise was so prevalent, and the other gears were quieter.
What would cause the noise to go away when i push the clutch in though?
I was thinking the TB, but I have a feeling it isn't that simple.
Any recommendations?
Worst case scenario, are there any quality transmission specialists that sell used tranny's for the 4g63?
Thanks guys!
