K well i finally hit the dyno today, and ran 295 whp and 297 ft-lbs on pump gas. i guess im pretty happy with that. But what do i do now? i dont really wanna start replacing things i allready put in (check my mod list). I was thinking a magnus motorsports intake manifold, but some people were saying to replace my manifold and o2 housing with the stock evo ones. i dont wanna spend a tonne right now. but around maybe 500. throw out ideas. and i dont think im ready for cams yet. oh, and dont forget im fwd. I NEED SLICKS BAD!

I just dyno'd basically the same numbers you did on 91 octane. Being FWD, I would look into some polyurethane motormounts to help eliminate wheel hop. I went with 3 poly's and one fresh OEM mount (tranny-side to not get vibration in the cabin) and that helped out immensley.

Aside from that, I would say you ARE ready for cams. You put down good numbers and have a good MAS setup so its time to upgrade the weaklink of your setup. At this point that's the cams. I used to have an 18G and I saw a HUGE improvement once I added cams. The Evo16G really falls off after 6K rpms and with some nice 264/272 cams you will gain about 30whp and most of all, your power curve will be more linear and your top end will SHINE. It could very well be the difference between winning and losing some races. When you do decide to do the cams, upgrade your headgasket to the Mitsu 4layer and add some ARP headstuds.

**Great price on the cams, FOR SALE right now at this reputable vendor:

"This month we have HKS Cams on special , you get a set of cams for one low price shipped to your door, choose between a 264 or 272 Intake Cam to go with a 272 Exhaust Cam. HKS high performance billet camshafts are CAD designed to optimize torque & horsepower throughout the powerband. Increased performance from the HKS camshafts are achieved by widening the degree of opening of the valve, which increases power in the higher RPM range, and by increasing lift, which raises overall torque output. All HKS camshafts are made from new billets of high nickel content iron alloy, not reground stock units, therefore equaling or exceeding the OE units they are designed to replace in terms of quality and workmanship. The camshafts are direct replacements and are designed to be compatible with the factory followers and valve springs." $599 shipped After that, I would get some Denso 660's as you are going to be pushing the limits of those 550's with that much HP and boost.

I would definately recommend that first before you get a sheetmetal intake manifold. Oh and congrats on your numbers, that should make an excellent DSM. :dsm:

Edit: A 2G exhaust manifold flows the same as the Evo one, if anything take yours off and have the runners ported. Your 02 housing you could upgrade but I swear to god, the best 02 housing (lightyears ahead of the Punishment Racing one) is NS Fabrication's unit. If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you their number, I am NOT affiliated with the company but their product is excellent.

yeah, im just really not sure about cams. i dont really wanna take apart the head and change the head gasket... just not in the mood. but thats awesome input (exactly what i was looking for) thanks! more input please. thanks.

You don't have to take off the head to replace the cams.

Here's a few ideas (in random order of course):

1) Cams
2) More Boost
3) Lightweight Flywheel
4) Giggle Gas (nitrous)
5) Slicks for the track
6) Shep trans and new CV axles (when you break the stock ones with the slicks)
7) More Boost
8) DSMlink and a Wideband for more fine tuning
9) Upgraded exhaust manifold (SBR, EVO3, ported 2G, tubular, etc....)

I would think adding HP and a better TQ curve would be higher on the priority list then your lack of motivation. I didn't feel like taking out every plastic panel and carpeting to swap in OEM black but it made the car better so I did it ;)

Don't overlook the other suggestions I had, all of it is good. 99gstracer had some decent recommendations too although I wouldn't go with nitrous quite yet.

well im running 20 psi right now... i think my bov is leaking after a bit though... how many psi is the type s good for? i meant take off the head for the cams cause it was reccomended that i do the headgasket also. right now im looking for the best bang for my buck, but definetely not nitrous. how much gain do you figure i would recieve from changing my o2 housing and manifold?

who told you you need to replace your headgasket when u drop cams in? put some arp head studs in. you dont have to remove the head if u do it one by one. if your trying to keep your stock internals and want more power cams are the way to go. a ported 2g manifold and 02 housing will increase efficency of airflow, which will help you make more power, decrease spool, all that good stuff. its mainly ur budget that is going to limit you with modifications. i know it has for me :notgood: but thats just life. haha

i only got that idea cause the guy on here said it. but do i even need the studs? how much horse at the wheels will cams give me? wont my idle be crap with the cams?

I already answered that for you. And no, your idle will stay just fine with that combo of camshafts. I recommended changing the headgasket but didn't mean to confuse that with the head work, it was more for when that time comes around. ARP studs are VERY useful compared to stockers. When you go run high boost the studs don't expand whatsoever and you get piece of mind knowing they are keeping the head together.

I thought you already have a 2G exhaust manifold? I have already put in my input. PM me if you are interested in a GREAT ported 2.5" O2 housing and I gave you a link for some sweet cams. Best of luck to you, I'm out :rocks:

Cams but you dont have to go with hks's. Everybody things hks's are magical. You can spend 150 less on a set of fp2's (made by comp) and make as much power. And have some cash left over.

what do you guys think of the fp2's? anyone have experience with them? bang for buck, will i notice a big enough difference for the money on these? and what about the gain on a new o2 housing and manifold? i have a ported o2 and a ported gvr4 manifold. i also have a broken bolt on the bottom left corner for the manifold that i need to get fixed, but thats besides the point. anyways, all input is appreciated. thanks.

Oh man, get a 2G or Evo manifold. The GVR4 mani is just a 1G manifold, prone to cracking big time.

I actually have COMP cams, not HKS cams and they seem to be EXCELLENT quality. People in posts previous already gave you some numbers as to the power they make. Both COMP and FP cams are nearly identical, they are good options to the HKS cams.

I also suggest you upgrade your exhaust manifold and O2 housing. 2nd gen manifold is fine, virtualy no different than the evoIII manifold when the collector is ported.

An evoIII O2 housing is a perfect match for your turbo, TRE has them on sale for $99.

You could get a used 2nd gen manifold and new O2 housing for two hundred bucks.
