Here's a little info for you on the ICS / idlesurge:

Mine went bad in my car. I had Idle surge bad and the Mitsu Dealer Diagnosed it as a bad ICS but wanted $330.00 for the new one.

I got a used one and that was bad too. I used the links at the bottom of Crebotechs web site. www.crebotech.com.

After running thorugh the electrical check of the parts I found these results:
The ohms on the old ISC were bad. The used replacement checked out electrically but just didn't seem to work right.

There are two main components to the ICS and I will keep them simple. An electrical component and a mechanical component that consits of a plunger.

I pluged in the ICS but didn't install it. I once again followed along with the info from Crebotech. Cycled the ignition on and off and see that the plunger on the OLD ICS vibrated. The replacement kinna moved but it seemed like it was not aligned right.

The old ICS was bad electrically and there was something not right about the plunger on the replacement.
So I took three screws out and seperated the two components.
Played Dr. Frankistein and mated the good known pieces and bingo I have a working ICS. No more check engine light or idle surge. Very simple and it cost me $100.00 for a Used 1G Turbo Throttle body with an ICS.

*Results may vary*
Thought I would share this.

It has been three days since I did this. The car is running great. Idle is consistantly 750-800 RPMs and no check engine light. So I am happy.:thumb:

ISC or ICS .... I'm so confused? .. But I get confused easily. That's just me!!
Now I've got a story. When my ISC went ka-fluey I checked it out with an ohmmeter and found one of the coils open. I took the thing completely apart [and cleaned out the plunger and seat and what-have-you as long as I was into it so deeply] and removed the two donut shaped coil thingies. I then used my cute little Dremmel® tool and ground away at the 'plastic' until I exposed the hairlike enamel wire inside, and using tweezers and magnifying glasses, managed to fish out 1/8 inch of that wire and solder it back to the post where it rotted away from. Then I sealed it back up with some plastic repair gook, and tested it again. Bingo!!! - all coils read the correct resistance. The ISC worked!!! That was 6 months ago and the damn thing still is working today. The total cost --> ZERO.
I hope that I didn't jinx it by writing this!!!!!OMG

Update (8 months later)
Idle surge just returned. I have catagorized the stage of symptomes so to speak of idle surge. Remember this is my particualar experience I am not a mechanic.

Stage 1 -after driving for 2 or 3 hours at 70-80 mph, If you push in the clutch to down shift or coast the rpms drop to zero and the car then dies. It will restart and you can continue to drive.

Stage 2 - Idle raises to 1400 -2000 rpms.

Stage 3 - Fix it fool. If you don't do something the ECU may get fried. Lot's of money.

So there I am. I think I am going to see if I can get a rebuilt ICS to see if that will do any better. I will keep you updated to my Idle Surge Journey.

Have you done other checks like boost leaks or your EGR valve? Also one thing I did that helped after getting another ISC was block off the FIAV look it up that might help as well.
