My friend's uncle is selling his 91 AWD TSi and I'm looking to buy it since I'm the only one he said he'd sell it to because he kinda wants to keep it.

The car has 120k miles on it though, and I'm afraid I'll blow the motor on it fast with that many miles. I was looking on Osaka's website and they have the jdm cyclone 4g63 swap for sale, complete for 1300.

Anyone have specs and know whether or not it will be too complicated to swap the motors? My mom's boyfriend is a mechanic, so I'm not sweating the install too much so if anyone has info, just let me know.

Thanks

Many people here race with engines with more miles than that. I say wait until you blow the motor to switch it.

Buy anyways:

-JDM engines and US engines are the same.

*If you do blow your engine, you may want to do a rebuild. The cost is similar, but then you can get what your want.

Taking your thoughts into consideration, that sounds like a plan so I'm gonna keep the stock motor in. I was wondering though...

I'm going to have 3-3.5k dollars left over to spend on performance mods. The car has already had the turbo rebuilt in the last 2 months and he doesn't exactly rip the car alive. The man is in his early 40's so he's a moderately easy driver (I've seen this in action, he lives in my neighborhood)

I was wondering what the most effective mods would be to get the car started? I was thinking doing the majority of mods needed before I upgrade the turbo once I get more hours like the following:

Front Mount IC (unsure which to use, car will be street driven)
Blow Off Valve- Leaning towards Blitz
Intake- Injen maybe? unsure who makes them
SHort Shifter
Clutch/Flywheel
Exhaust- Want the HKS Hi-Power but I want an exhaust with the slant look and I was unsure if it did.
3 in. downpipe maybe? I might lean towards this more than the clutch.

I think that'd be good enough for starters aside from a turbo timer and some type of fuel upgrade, but I don't think I'll need it yet. Any suggestions are welcome.

well you are talking about a 1G DSM so let me school you a tad:thumb: First with the BOV the BLITZ is one kick ass BOV but there is one problem it Vents into the atmosphere. The 1G BOV is the best bang for ur buck BIV it can hold approx. 18 psi. As for the intake Injen is the brand. I would recommend a Dejon Tool they have better choice depending on you turbo application. Also they have have intakes for 1G for a 2G MAS and a GM MAS. As for the exhaust i would recommend a Thermal R&D has a great sound and is stainless steel.

Be sure to check:

I would ($3000.00):
-In this order:
1.)Intake - Just a K&N Filter ($40.00)
2.)Exhaust - RnR 3" O2 Elim Turbo Back Exhaust ($635.00)
3.)Exhaust - Ported 2G Exhaust Manifold ($275.00)
4.)Gauges - Autometer Boost/EGT ($200.00)
5.)Boost Controller - Apex-i Super AVC-R ($525.00)
___________________________________
Stage 1, no fuel mods, 15psi - ($1675.00)
6.)Clutch - ACT 2600 Clutch ($370.00)
7.)Fuel Control - Apexi Super AFC2 ($320.00)
8.)Fuel Pump - Walbro 255lph HP ($135.00)
9.)Injectors - 550CC Injectors ($290.00)
___________________________________
Stage 2, 18psi - ($2790.00)
*Now you're ready for a bigger turbo/intercooler... if this isn't already fast enough for you.

*Wait until you blow your current clutch to buy a new one.
*You don't need a BOV. (You don't want to vent)
*Good luck :thumb:.

Better to go with an Evo III Exhaust Manifold for $200 from Slowboy. You can port it later and get even more gains than a ported 2G.

if you really really want to get a bov...go with the super-obnoxious ssq
LOL
and if youre lookin for cheap speed...strip out the back, even though that wont chop TOO much time off the 1/4
1.)Intake - Just a K&N Filter ($40.00)
2.)Exhaust - RnR 3" O2 Elim Turbo Back Exhaust ($635.00)
3.)Exhaust - Ported 2G Exhaust Manifold ($275.00)
4.)Gauges - Autometer Boost/EGT ($200.00)
5.)Boost Controller - Apex-i Super AVC-R ($525.00)
that right there, thanks to deathbeast, will get you going very well on a budget...or to be even more budgety, go with a mbc, though that ebc will treat you very well if you lookin to lay down the cash
and you might wanna get a a/f ratio gauge....though i cant say im sure EXACTLY what those gauges do...i think that super avcr might have that area under control
and one more thing....HAVE FUN! these cars are BADASS. :D
