Can’t wait. must wait. Must finish clean and prep of the DRIP MOLDINGS!

*squeek*
🥳

These were the best drip and glass moldings in hand, rubber is intact, scuffed a bit. I wasn’t able to locate a 1/4” open cell foam tape in time for a proper restore, so I cleaned and prepared leaving the old foam. I did scotch bright out any rust spots, and treated the rubber with a wash, scrub, prep, and the best product I could locate in stores for now - meguiers ceramic trim gel-

I have lots of little details to take care of now, putting the interior back in, one panel at a time, making sure all clips and screws are correct.

I have a few items I need to get - hopefully people here have some parts I cannot locate.

First, getting the wipers installed. I had to re-align the wiper motor mounts and find cowl cover snaps. I have 3, need 2more. Snaps needed paint too:

For the rear interior, I need one of these clips:
5B68C2CE-3B48-40AC-8C9D-4EF8B772B970.jpeg
and one of these plastic nuts:

I hope I just dropped this in the car somewhere, but I looked a lot.

I was lucky to find both the plastic nut, and the metal clip MB608152 in my parts bins.

I finished painting three snaps MB375995, and ordered 2 more, along with the other metal clips MU470013 online from Mitsubishi.

Thank you for your reactions!

Here is the cautionary tale for those who wish for a new paint job. Working around the car is now very deliberate. No jewelry, no zippers, sweatshirts and sweatpants. No power cords hanging out of the windows and engine bay. Cordless tools are a preferred, mind-full of wind when the garage door is open. I'm using my imagination to think about - if that falls over, slides down, will it hit the paint? No rags with oil or solvents left to chance, etc anywhere near the work area.

This is hard as I still have a lot of work to put the interior back together, cleaning one panel at a time. I have a chassis rebuild on four corners in the future, and a ton of engine bay cleanup and maintenance.

I knew this would be the case, as I did things in this order. So, things just got a little more difficult. I'm sure by the time I get back to the track, I'll have some repair work, so there it is. Mistakes just got a lot more expensive.

Justin

Upholstery is hanging back in the lid. A bit plusher than stock, and its a great color match. So happy to have functional sun shades again.

I feel your pain. Repainting my black spyder was one of the worst decisions I made for a track car. We used a very soft PPG clear that flattens out really well, but scratches very easily. I hate working on that car now with the precautions required. That being said the car looks great!

A list of stupid little things, all of which can be addressed:

Couple items to scratch off the list:
New bolts and washers for the hood bolts (check)
Run a tap to clean out the threads in the hood

Clearance and center a nice clean cut hole for the hood pins on the under side of the hood

I love the attention to detail in this restoration with securing many of the small OEM parts. What are your plans for future use with the car after all of this work?
Sell? The first new car I bought with my own money? Not in the plan.

The plan - enjoy, enjoy, and enjoy the long game of keeping everything working, and get back to the track to see how much performance is now shoehorned into this platform.

380hp at 3100lbs is a decent package for a track day car. I've always wanted to see what the handling would be like with Ohlins under the corners. The JIC's were great for their time, but there are so many better options now.
