Curious why the 2Gb CAS didn't work out for you. Any ideas?

Otherwise, always nice to get things chugging along on their own!

That is the question - Why didn't the Kiggly Crank sensor and 2Gb CAS combo work?

I need to do a bit of problem solving to identify which of these two are causing the issue. I expect the issue is BTKAC (between the keybord and chair)

And clearance of the fan shield:
A couple holes and cuts make it easy to make a nice bend to push the edge of the shield away from the WG flapper

1st drive test was a 3pt turn, more like 5 point turn, and no power steering! Ack!

Quick question, is that a stock SMIC? How does it handle that 16G if so? I remember on my 1G it would rip but heat soak pretty fast. Are the 2Gs better units?
The stock 2G SMIC are pathetic. No flow. The stock 1G SMIC is actually an upgrade compared to 2G. The one on this car is an OG - RRE custom job built back in 2002 from a top bottom core cut in half and doubled up, and stuffed into the side.

That’s pretty awesome. Super curious as to your IATs after a full send.

PS Pump issues
19585C86-06BA-4FBC-B419-751367AACB00.jpeg

Beautiful rebuilt pump is not working quite right. It took a bit of messing around to finally admit the pump was the issue - Logic went like this:
Everything is installed ok, fluid is topped up, belts snug, spins nice, why no power steering?

Theory 1: Air bubble
Diagnostic action: Disconnect fluid supply hose, use hand pump to push fluid through the system, turn over the pump occasionally, reconnect and turn the wheel lock to lock a few times.

Result: No change

Diagnostic action: Increase RPM, turn the wheel

Result: Steering assist! Pump is pumping but not enough at lower RPM

Diagnostic action: Swap in the original pump - was working before, should work again, or it will point the finger away from the pump if the same behavior remains

Result:
BDAA8C50-DF0C-475F-A382-8F15D92571CA.jpeg

Its working, even at idle.🤔
Well good enough for now, but the new pump needs adjustment.

Now on to a minor leak from the upper coolant hose at the water neck
4BEA8359-AF89-4F7E-AAFC-28D4FB5A3153.jpeg

I think I’ll swap out the hose with a new one. So maybe someone can put my mind at ease, Is the cooling system normally pressurized so that the hose is tight to squeeze?

On consulting with Rich, he suggested unbolt and re-torque the pump housing (4 bolts) - Done. Found again, I need a deep socket 24mm - that I don't have. A quest!

Did some things:
Used the cigarette lighter for its first time
Turned on the car, and connected the phone with car-play - Depesch Mode
Shutdown ECU Logging and Timing (for maximum Pi4b performance)
Grabbed the joy controller from the glove box - and played Ms Packman, and Space Invaders

A4A6EE43-3D6D-412B-83BC-0B8629D55FBB.jpeg

Mostly working as expected.
Idle is high, like 2k until the engine warms up, then it drops down to 850 at about 180deg coolant temp.

The BISS is all the way closed, and the ISC stepper position is still 0-10. Was hoping to see 30’s

Makes boost quickly, idle is ok after its warmed up. Still a little wonky to tap the throttle when RPM’s creep up to get it to fall back to normal.

Brakes are spongy, need to bleed I suppose.

When it is idling, it perrrrs nicely. Looks like I have addressed all of the leaks. This is good to go on the road! It has a trip planned to LA

Lets see the list:

Phase 3 (Suspension and Sub-frame)
Deliver to John Mueller - Refurbish and update suspension and handling.
The man with the plan
https://muellerized.com/

Leftovers from earlier phases:
Locate 2” thick 2Ga Eclipse door caps - Looking!
Paint and install 2Ga door caps
Protective film install
Grey plastic interior door switch trim - Looking!
Finish PS Pump update - re-install and test
Stabilize idle control
Cyl-1 exhaust valve guide oil leak (I still see puff of smoke on start)
Kiggly crank and 2Gb cam sensor conversion - poor sensors? or wrong setup?

Progress
Is that the same 2g from the signature photo?
Yes - same car!

Looks amazing and fun to drive
Thank You!

The DSM community that built up around RRE and Muelleized inc in California were my 2nd family while I was working in LA, and they are still out there! I've met new people through DSM Tuners and everyone has been positive and I feel lucky to have connected with some really great people who are so creative and express themselves with their work.

This car has been an integral part of my journey into motorsports. It's close to insanity trying to keep these machines with all their complexity working well. Nobody gets rich running a DSM - but you do get to have some serious fun some times.

I'm looking forward to Phase 3 of this project - and I never take for granted the privilege of working with the best people on the planet.
