Is it just me, or is it the car?

I seem to have this really annoying problem... When I try to shift really fast I get a grinding noise. This especially happens in first gear, and sometimes in second... I rarely hear it in the other gears. Pretty much what I mean is I slam on the clutch and shift to first is about 1/4 of a second it will grind. This is really annoying when I try to make a quick start and I didn't already have the car in gear with the clutch down. A mechanic told me that it's my clutch and that if I want to shift faster, I need a stage 2 or 3 clutch that will engage faster and is made for racing. I have also seen some posts about this BG syncroshift stuff... will that solve my problem? If so, where can I buy it? If it won't, any other suggestions?

Your mechanic knows crap about these cars. BGsyncroshift will help the problem, but if your car has high mileage, your tranny may need a rebuild soon. Most everyone with the early year DSM suffers from the same problem - I know I do. Pick up some BG (you can get it at www.machv.com) and see how much of a difference it makes. You likely won't be able to shift as fast as you'd like to until you get a rebuild. I'd recommend looking into a www.teamrip.com or www.bmtranny.com rebuild.
