Is a gsr really that much better than a gst?

I have always wanted a gsx for the awd. However, I just found a great deal on a 1996 gst and would love to get it. I know I am losing the awd but am considering it since the price is great.

What will I be losing? Anyone think it is worth waiting for a gsx? How do you guys who own gsts feel?

Thanks.

You will be losing out on AWD. Stability in corner and awesome handling in the rain. I know many gst guys that wish they went awd. But its your decision. I love my awd.

I love my GST! I've got the basic stuff done suspension wise, and my car handles great! You do lose traction with FWD vs. AWD, but if the price is right, buy the GST and buy a bunch of stuff to make it better with the leftover cash. Good luck with whatever you decide:thumb:

Thanks guys! Yeah I really would like awd since I am in the rain all the time here in Seattle, but with the extra money I should be able to do some mods. We will see what happens.

I personally prefer the FWD, its lighter, more reliable due to the fact that it doesnt have the strain put on it from the AWD launches and you dont have to worry about any AWD drive train parts breaking like that always do, also the FWD doesnt have the power robbing parasitic drag that the AWD causes, and last but not least I like the challenge of launching the FWD.

If you're gonna drag it, get FWD. If you just want to drive, AWD. Unless it's a _really_ good deal on the FWD, the go ahead on it and you can come out even or better when you realize your error and correct yourself.

Every person that i know that has a GST buys it because it is a great deal. After a few mods, the car cannot get traction worth a damn, and they wish that they had bought a GSX. Buy the GSX.

Thanks for the opinions. It shounds like each have pros and cons and most people are split. This will be a tough decision.

I will give you some local reasons to buy an AWD. Ben Howard road in Monroe. Golden Gardens road in Ballard. Highway 2 to Wenatchee. Woodinville/Duvall road heading east. The on-ramp to I5 from Alkai Beach. West Snoqualmie Valley road going north from Duvall. The Olympic Peninsula. I hope this helps. If you want to feel some of these roads in AWD, hit me with an e-mail.

"..and last but not least I like the challenge of launching the FWD." LOL that's just what the people with fwd's say to justify not having awd. Go AWD, fwd would be least desired relative to awd and rwd, and since rwd isnt available on a stock dsm, just go awd, no reason not to.

I agree with that.

I'm quite happy with my awd, wait until your first hard launch, with no wheel spin, and your up and gone... that'll change your mind forever.

I don't understand the track problem. Didn't Dan Cokic clean up the Ultimate Street Car shootout 1/4 mile with an AWD?

I'll have to disagree with you there. I know plenty of fast AWD dsm's. What makes you say to go with the FWD for dragging anyway?

Personally I drive a GST but...I do not run my car like a race car every day so the fwd does alright. Now if I were to start "racing" my car I would probably rather have a GSX, cuz I tell you what, I have very few mods on my car and if I mash it in second gear the front tires will roast; talk about a PITA, otherwise I love my car.

Ok, whoever said FWD for drag over AWD is just plain wrong. FWD is the worst for drag-style racing. It's a no-brainer, come on. FWD is good for Auto X, but AWD is even better also. Go AWD, that's what I am looking for right now actually. :thumb:

I have a GST and always liked to have the advantage with the roll starts since most races are finding someone driving down the street rather then when your stopped. I also have some real good tires on there and that always helps for traction. When it comes to dragging, you can talk for the GST as much as the GSX when it comes to the pro's and con's. Everyone will have their own opinion

I actually know how to drive and I really do prefer the challenge smart guy. Im not saying I like the GST better because I have one... I dont have one, my brother does and I will soon have one too. For straight up drag racing just get an lsd and some slicks. The price of both of those will be cheaper then replacing all the broken shit in the AWD drive train.

Come to think of if, so far everytime I encounter some street confrontation it's about 90% from a roll. Rarely you gonna have a car right next to you on a stop light. And, highway runs are even more fun, able to keep up if not beat these modded V8's with little mods.
